Dell has terrible support.

They have very good business/enterprise support. Their home computer support sucks balls. I'd sooner hit myself on the head with a hammer than go through that again.

Dell was on the verge of improving its consumer (home user) support when they decided to pull a 180 and base their operations out of Wal-Mart and Staples instead. I was part of what would have been the first new support team, but they realized that more sales was more profitable than better support. Ah, well.

On the coattails of the HP hatred, I'd like to add that my HP Pavilion DV6400 series laptop had an amazing mobo meltdown. Apparently there was a massive warranty extension because they shipped thousands of units with faulty motherboards.

Needless to say, I'm not going to buy anymore HP products in this lifetime.

Yeah, those DV series multimedia laptops are fancy, high-end systems that were often faulty. At the repair shop we had 4-5 in at a time for repairs (mostly motherboard issues).

This.

Oh yeah, and mine's a dv6000. Haven't had to pay for any formal repairs yet, though. Thank goodness.

I have a dv7 laptop, since Win7 launch, no problems thus far. A few of my buddies have bought similar laptops as well, all by HP. It's early yet, but it seems fine so far. I have not had much experience with HPs the last few years, so it is a bit of an experiment for me. We had a few earlier models 4 or 5 years ago that worked fine, but phased them out when we decided on Dell for a corporate standard. Unfortunately, since Dell bought Alienware, they don't have any alternative gaming line. And Alienware is hugely overpriced, which is why I went with HP.

HP has its own overpriced gaming line, the Voodoo PC, but they seem to have downplayed it a bit. They bought it from another company, so who knows, maybe they sold it again.

If you're gonna drop the money on a serious machine, though, the HP Z800 is the most beautiful piece of hardware made since the IBM AS400.

(My next box is going to be a Z800. They hired an engineer from BMW to design the airflow of that chassis.)

In an ideal world, Barkingturtle will be drowning in a pool of his own blood.

Ideal maybe but ineffective. Even the most vascular humans don't contain more than about 6 quarts of blood - hardly pool-filling.

You could fill a small punch bowl and hold his head in that.

I'm thinking with some lead time, I could draw out some blood and store it. After a while I'd get a bathtub full. Once I thaw it, I can then drown Kile with it.
