If Varus was an Australian, security profilers would like to have him on a watchlist, with a nice little file. Because by Australian standards, that sterilisation opinion is an extreme right-wing fundamentalist whack-job of an opinion.

In fact, if I thought Varus was an Australian, I'd hit up the ASIO web page, find a report page, and link a report to ASIO to that little post. God knows I'd feel safer knowing that he was occasionally checked out.

Don't be appalled Varus, it's nothing I that I don't tolerate for myself. As someone who has attended more than five protest rallies as an adult, I should automatically have my own humble and uninteresting little ASIO file.

What's the American alternative? The FBI? Some other internal security organisation? Since America is further right than Australia, Varus might not look so unhinged in the American context.

Gawd.

I know this may also sound revolutionary but I don't think anyone who's on welfare should be allowed to vote either.

Stopping at voting? I never knew you were so liberal Varus. These people don't even have the right to exist. They chosen not to have jobs, they aren't going to change their minds. All they do is leech; so we might as well get rid of them. I think it should be legal to kill people on welfare. If we turn it into a sport we might even be able to force those leeches into creating some benefit for society.

Close, but still not close enough. Anyone not willing to slay the leeches of society is at best a CINO and at worst a liberal.

Actually it's the Dems who need the votes.

They'll get them. I mean, there won't be a public option but I guarantee you that a bill will be passed in the next couple weeks (maybe in Jan given the holiday recess). Democrats will say "We had to fight for it, but we got you guys this, this and this." Republicans will say "We stopped the public option!".

Some Democrats will be upset that we didn't go to a single-payer system like they dreamed (and was never realistic). Some Republicans will be upset thatt he GOP failed to kill the reform bill dead as they promised.

Oh and it costs so much more to continue to support generations of dead beats than it would to sterlize one generation. In fact I'd like to look at the statistics on exactly how many welfare children grow up to receive welfare themselves.

What's radical is thinking that the current welfare state is working.

Well, the one in America isn't working very well, that's true. You've got such an unholy mess of overlapping and underlapping jurisdictions, and overlapping and underlapping programs.

Care to look outside of the USA, and you'll find the rest of us welfare safety-net states doing rather nicely thankyou. Almost all with lower per capita private and public national debts than the USA.

Australia, with one of the most progressive and comprehensive welfare safety net programs*, and moderate banking regulation, is the only OECD country that came out of the Global Financial crisis without ever having a recession. Right now we're gaining jobs beyond any economist's prediction. Unemployment is going down, not up. It's at 5.7% Anyone who is actively looking for work, keeping an official job-hunting diary, gets to draw jobseekers allowance from the Federal government. It's enough to live on frugally but with dignity if you are good with your spending habits. And strangely such social support for people who are going through an unemployed period in the cycles of their life isn't dragging the country down.

*Northern European states tend to have more comprehensive but less "progressive" welfare safety-nets.

Once again I am left with the same feeling after reading some of Varus' posts that I get when I pass by some dog crap and wrinkle my nose. Disgust.

Yeah, in Australia, the percentage of pregnancies terminated every year was HIGHER when abortion was illegal than ever since abortion has been made legal.

As for forced sterilisations, well, that's a Third Reich and Communist China habit that appalled and nauseated the rest of the world when they saw it in practise.

Shh, I wasn't going to mention the embarrassing direction the early 19th century eugenics movements took in the end, if you weren't.

I'm curious at what point does a person drop into this bucket of sterilization that Varus talks about. Who decides the turning point to distinguish someone who is down on their luck but is looking to turn their situation around and those that the government would feel should be sterilized.

What about that guy who is throwing his life away and finds that special women that turns their thinking and feelings about life around. In Varus's world that person would not get a chance to teach their children what they have learned so that they do not make the same mistakes. That person would have been sterilized so they wouldn’t be able to have children.

What about all those people that came from perfectly good homes to live on welfare and be a leech to our resources and money.

What about those people that come from families that leeched off the government and then grew up to cure cancer.

Your ideas on Sterilization sound like something that would come out of a country like China, who dictates how many children a couple can have. If my memory service me right I believe China is a communist country.

Varus, are you secretly a communist?

If people like Varrus are willing to pay for my sterilization, then I'm willing to have one!

(Actually, now that I'm thirty, insurance will finally cover it.)

I could view this in a positive light.

I resent that. I'm charming, attractive, intelligent, athletic, and have all my teeth. Not to mention I have money. And who says I have trouble attracting women? You people...lmao that's a good one. Why marry when I can get the milk for free?

If it weren't for the GOP, you could get married, Varrus.
