Browns new wonder tax

Quote:
Prime Minister Gordon Brown has come under fire over his plans to provide free personal care for the most vulnerable elderly people in England.

Conservative leader David Cameron asked "where is the money coming from?" and whether he would rule out a compulsory inheritance levy to pay for it.

Quote:
"What we want to know is where is the money coming from? People who work closely with you are completely opposed to the way this is being done," Mr Cameron said.

He said one option in the Green Paper was for a "£20,000 levy on every single elderly person in this country except the very poorest" and repeatedly urged Mr Brown to rule out a levy.

What .. the .. hell .. Smiley: oyvey

We are taxed enough, he can raise taxes directly from other existing sources. Inheritance tax already taxes those that die with enough assets. Why even discuss a mandatory 20k tax that will simply be another form to fill, another tax and yet another complexity.

He really wants to lose, doesn't he? Labour, the red tape party Smiley: rolleyes

Bring out your dead!

Taxing the elderly is pretty lame. Life insurance companies must have stock in burial services - tax them.

If you go with some sort of irreducible percentile estate tax, that would go much better, and cost less, on average.

Assisted suicide is less expensive, and costs a lot less if done yourself.

Now where did I leave that plastic bag?

Someone from your godforsaken country come explain this to us. "Death Tax" here is what the Pubbies call the inheritance tax. So this would just be a tax imposed upon anyone who died, to help offset health care costs for the elderly? If so, that seems pretty half-assed.

The proposal is not a 'Gordon Brown' proposal. Smiley: rolleyes

A group were asked to compile a list of all possible options for discussion at a summit next week. This includes 'all' possible options, including the 'fUck 'em all - let 'em rot in their own ****'.

The summit is to prioritise which strike the best balance between compassion and affordability. The 'death tax' is almost certain to be dismissed in the early stages.

The Tories have been invited to participate, but are making a big noise of refusing unless the 'death tax' option is ruled out before discussion.

I wonder if this has anything to do with the fact that the last Conservative Government were committed to this same 'death tax' if they hadn't lost the '97 election. This after they had alrrady introduced laws forcing old people to sell their homes to fund nursing home care.

FUcking hypocrites. Takes thickos like Gwyn with a short memory to fall for this.

As off as asking Goldie Hawn to sort out our Edjamacation system?

Srsly, they don't have a single policy, just a bunch of sound-bites that will get extra column inches in easy-to-read illustrated rags like Gwyn reads.

Beer Spittingly witty. Smiley: mad

But you have to wonder how in touch with real life they are when their policy developers, proof-readers and leadership could possibly think a 54% figure was possible?

The public discourse seems to have sunk to the level of conspiracy theories over here. I can't say it's the same there, but consider the possibility.
