Or rather, the protector of molesters, it appears.

I think this is my favorite part:

Quote:
Just a few weeks later, Bertone — now the Vatican's secretary of state — told the Wisconsin bishops to begin secret disciplinary proceedings against Murphy according to 1962 norms concerning soliciting sex in the confessional, according to the documents.

But a year later, Bertone reversed himself, advising the diocese to stop the process after Murphy wrote to Ratzinger saying he had repented and that the statute of limitations on the case had expired. Bertone suggested that Murphy should instead be subject to "pastoral measures destined to obtain the reparation of scandal and the restoration of justice."

"But that was in another country, and besides, the wench is dead." Smiley: laugh

was my favorite part. As long as they don't denounce my priesthood before my death, they can't not let me in to heaven!!!

Having read the Vatican's response (I would paraphrase it as "Pfft. Mehh") I think we may be about to see a stormy time.

Irish priests and bishops have procrastinated for months after being outed as covering up kiddy-fUckers' tracks (moving known pederasts to new parishes where they then spent 20+ years rogering under 10s) until finally resigning with reluctance.

There's an arrogance behind this trend, whereby offending priests and their apologist bishops claim unique circumstances in the face of appalling crimes.

The original offences are bad enough, and while I'm sure it's a tiny minority of priests who are guilty, the reluctance of the vatican to rain down a Shit-storm of denunciation, de-frocking and excommunication is what's especially hard to understand.
