Terrorists?

teh article wrote:
Nine people federal prosecutors say belong to a "Christian warrior" militia were accused Monday of plotting to kill a Michigan law enforcement officer and then attack other police at the funeral.

A federal grand jury in Detroit, Michigan, indicted six Michigan residents, two Ohioans and an Indianan on charges of seditious conspiracy, attempted use of weapons of mass destruction, teaching the use of explosive materials and possessing a firearm during a crime of violence, U.S. Attorney Barbara L. McQuade and Andrew Arena, FBI special agent in charge, announced.

Apparently their schtick is that the "end times" are upon us, and... they can't wait, or something.

You can't have non-Muslim terrorists, silly.

While Gitmo is out (as they're U.S. citizens and I don't think we should put our own citizens there), I'd be all for locking them in a hole in the sub-basement at Leavenworth.

Heh, I liked the part of the story where they called some other militia and said "We're being raided by ATF! Can we hide out with you?" and the other militia essentially said "Ummm... Que? No habla the English. Uh... bye!"

The Southern Poverty Law Center, an Alabama-based nonprofit organization that monitors hate groups and other fringe organizations, lists the Hutaree as a "Patriot" group militia.

"Generally, Patriot groups define themselves as opposed to the 'New World Order,' engage in groundless conspiracy theorizing or advocate or adhere to extreme anti-government doctrines," the Southern Poverty Law Center said in a report, "Rage on the Right: The Year in Hate and Extremism."

The law center also defines Patriot groups as "militias and other organizations that see the federal government as part of a plot to impose 'one-world government' on liberty-loving Americans."
Yep, I'd say terrorists. They hate America and everything we stand for. Tighter immigration control! Build border walls!

Not terrorists. For the same reasons I've given in the past when this question comes up. To be terrorism, the target has to be seemingly random. The point is to terrorize a population and use their fear to apply pressure on authorities to act in some way. These guys were planning to directly attack the targets they disagreed with (police officers).

A plot to blow up cafes and malls, followed by calls for removal of police and government or more attacks will follow is terrorism. A plot to attack said police and government is not...

"Seemingly random". As in: From the perspective of the population as a whole. Obviously, the folks doing the attack know who they're targeting. The point is that as a member of a police force, or an employee at a government facility, you know that some extremist anti-government group might just target your work and you by extension.

As a random citizen walking down the street, eating an ice cream cone, you don't assume such things. Same thing with the WTC. That is not what we'd consider a military target, nor an extension of government power, or command and control.

BTW, I have stated repeatedly in the past, that the attack on the Pentagon doesn't actually qualify as terrorism. The hijacking of the planes and killing of the people inside does though...

Funny how pretty much the rest of the entire world disagrees with your qualification here.

Edit: As an employee of the University of Florida, I am technically employed by the state, making my death in a terrorist attack "not qualify as terrorism" by your definition, right? Jeez, you need to stop making up definitions to suit your own arguments.

When I read this my jaw dropped. And I do mean this literally. I'm not quite sure how someone could live so completely in their own little world and still manage to interact with the real one.

It's not so much interaction, more like sitting in a movie theater and yelling at the screen.
