I think you misunderstood me. I'm not suggesting we send doctors to the Taliban with flowers and smiles and that will make them stop wanting to kill us. But if one guy shows up at a doctor's office and makes it no secret that he's a member of the Taliban, I think it's possible that showing him kindness and compassion could make him think twice about what he's doing.

Or maybe you understood me just fine and you're just a curmudgeon. That's possible.

Or, and I know it's a stretch given how obscenely obtuse I can be at times, I understood you just fine and am really trying to drive home what I see as a fundamental flaw in the offered alternative world-view.

Personally, I don't have a problem with 'assuming' someone is dangerous because they participate in a known terrorist organization. If they were so nice and normal, they wouldn't run in those types of circles.

Domestic wiretapping...blah blah blah...violation of free speech...blah blah blah....

I don't see it that way. I've always believed that our rights stopped when the exercise of them would cause harm, outside of self defense. Yelling fire in a crowded theatre places others at harm and is, as a result, outside the right to free speech.
