Casey Anthony: Murderer or victim?
Murderer: | 9 (20.5%) | |
Victim: | 3 (6.8%) | |
Probably guilty, but not beyond a reasonable doubt: | 32 (72.7%) | |
Total: | 44 |
Personally, I'm pretty surprised that she was given a not guilty verdict. I understand that most of the evidence was circumstantial, but like the prosecutor said in his closing statements, you don't make an accident look like a murder. That poor little child was murdered, and her mother lied about her whereabouts for 30 days afterwards, and then finally when she couldn't lie anymore gave the old "a **** stole my baby" defense. I believe, under Florida's law, she should have been given the death penalty and fried.
On the other hand, if her lawyer had put up an insanity plea from the beginning (instead of desperately trying to have her deemed incompetent 3/4s of the way through the trial), I probably would have bought it. There is a serious malfunction in a mother's brain that allows her to cause harm and murder her own child. She could have used the tried and true "Satan made my schizophrenic *** do it" line, and I would have bought that a hundred times more than "she accidentally died and my molester father made me hide the body".
Any thoughts on 2011's biggest courtroom controversy?
