That's not to say it's "better". It serves its purpose though which is letting others know how hot/cold something is.
Well, my emphasis was more so using the same measuring system that the rest of the world uses. I don't care about "trying to fit in", but the Metric system is at least "equally as effective", so it only makes more sense to me to use the Metric system.

"Now" was in reference to when people had become accustomed to our current measuring system. It isn't "now" as in "2012", but whenever society had fully integrated the current system.
