But I still hate myself a bit inside for enjoying them.
Why?
A good movie, is a good movie, don't beat yourself up because it involves 'romance'. Many here previously listed Princess Bride as a favorite movie. I put PB into the romantic comedy column.
Yes, but there's a difference between a good movie and an entertaining movie. Sometimes they overlap, like with Princess Bride (one of my favorites too), others don't like The Ugly Truth. That was one that I hated myself a little for enjoying. So many of those movies are just so sexist, it bothers me. You have an *** hole hot dude, and a hot woman who often is a bit neurotic but overall is a nice person, they get together, the guy is a jerk, one of them (usually the dude) screws up and they split. Then at the last scene, someone does something redeeming and they get back together. It's one thing if the guy is a genuine nice guy but did something stupid to **** off the girl. Like in Forgetting Sarah Marshall. He cheated with his ex briefly, but as soon as he got his head together he left, and went immediately to tell his new girl what had happened. I'm glad she forgave him in that movie. But too often the guy is a jerk who doesn't deserve to be forgiven, but he's forgiven anyways because everybody loves a happy ending!
That is the main reason why I detest romantic comedies. That and every single one I've seen has the same damn plot.
