Thinking about buying the wife a digital camcorder for Christmas. Her digital camera is broken so she's been using her phone (which works but isn't ideal.)
I know almost nothing about camcorders. I know plenty about technology so I can figure out what is a good idea in general and I understand the specs but I could use some advice from people who are more versed in home movie makinginess.
Any suggestions? Price is an object but reasonably flexible if the higher prices come with significant, important advances.

for example. Obvious differences but is that really going to matter when she wants to film the kids school plays and gift opening?
