I've somehow gotten more organized as I've gotten older. Probably as a defense mechanism against eternally having to search for things. Cell phone is always in one of two places. Keys are always in the same spot. Book I'm currently reading in a specific spot. I do occasionally have the brain melt when actually using something and then getting distracted (keys in ignition, then checking pocket and wondering where they are kind of thing). The one that gets me every single time, and I suspect it's because I only do this once a year, is the damn scissors/tape when I'm wrapping Christmas presents. They're stored in a specific place, so I have no problem finding them. But while actually wrapping a pile of gifts, with paper strewn about, I'll inevitably think I set it right there, only to find that for some reason it's over there instead. I suspect this is because of gremlins moving them cause they think it's funny or something.
I have a friend who is absolutely terrible in terms of organization. This is compounded by the fact that his wife is just as bad (maybe even a bit worse). They appear to have no patterns or organization to how they do things. Papers, both important and not, strewn about randomly. Keys in whatever random spot they happened to set them down. Ditto with cell phones. All often piled with/under whatever they happened to have in their hands at the time. It's almost comical to watch them roam around their house looking for stuff constantly. Almost. I've gotten in the habit of never leaving a voice mail when I call his cell because it's never because his cell phone is in another room snug in its charger or something, but because it's "somewhere" in the vicinity, but it takes him just enough time to locate it under whatever pile of random stuff got placed on top of it since he set it down that it'll go to voice mail. 99 times out of a hundred, I'll get a call back from him 10 seconds after it goes to voice mail, so if I try to leave a message, I'll get his call while doing so. So I just don't bother.
