The US's first off-shore wind turbine is being launched today off the coast of Maine. Within two weeks it's scheduled to be moored to the ocean floor and plugged into the grid.
It's just a little turbine, comparatively speaking, a prototype with an expected 20 kilowatt output. If this all goes as planned this pilot project will feature two more full size turbines with a projected output of 6 megawatts each.
There is a lot of energy potential on our northern coasts - both sides of the continent. Can we blow our way to a sustainably powered future?
Also TGIF...
