I've yet to play a new/newish MMO that wasn't fundamentally bad.
DayZ Standalone is still in Alpha; but even as is it makes for a great gaming experience IMO plus it's pretty cheap at the moment... if you're in to the survivalist/zombies stuff. The bulk of the game-play
(when not looting and preventing starvation) is more about interactions with other players. There are no quests or experience points so everyone is on level playing field. What makes this game most interesting is when you die you start completely over again.. so it really makes for good heart-pounding suspense when dealing with people.
A friend and I once sat pinned in a building for a half hour after getting shot at after a multi-hour looting session.. hearts pounding before we decided it was safe to make a run for it.
Eventually they will add vehicles, constructable bases, etc. There are also things to worry about like disease and blood types (for transfusions).
Some of the more amusing aspects of the game are things such as.. being held prisoner (with handcuffs) and being stripped and force-fed disinfectant for the amusement of your captors.
The map is absolutely humungous and is real to life scale. It's a good break from the standard auto-attack, rinse, repeat, turn-in-crap to an NPC..
Total sandbox.
After watching a few of the vids of people playing it I had to get it.
