My Grandmother has had kidney issues for years now. This past year they've finally given out. She's on dialysis. Not blood dialysis but some weird "fill your gut with special liquid and sit around for an hour every four hours".
They've gone through all the children and they have all been ruled out as donor because of their own health and kidney issues.
Now they are think of grandkids. I'm the oldest and healthiest of the grandkids. The others have various kidney issues or are still children. I have not been asked by any doctors or my grandmother. Just my parents brought it up. And my mom says my grandmother doesn't really want anyone to donate it now. (But, grain of salt on that cause she's that type of person)
But I'm torn. I'm afraid that being so young with a family history of blood pressure and diabetes issues is going to leave me vulnerable when I get older. I'm afraid I don't want to give up a kidney this early in my life.
Now I get to weigh my grandmother's (possibly) short term health vs the chance (how ever small) of myself having kidney issues as I grow older.
