I have long believed that the value in church, and even in school, is in the socialization that is basic and essential to its functioning. There is value in coming together regularly to commiserate, to connect, and to encourage each other to do better. I've seen that in church, in school, at work, and even in bars.
That sounds good. I just wish there were more options for people who aren't religious or into alcohol
I've been getting together with some old friends for D&D a lot lately on Friday nights. I suppose it's kind of like that. Our group keeps getting larger as we invite more people and our wives become interested and join the fray. It started with just me and two other guys, now we're up to about eight people who come pretty consistently every week including the DM.
It's only for a few hours a week though. I often wonder what it would be like to live in a small town where everybody knows everybody. Perhaps there could be a town square type of place where everyone gets together for special occasions and holidays. Everyone would have a specific role in the community-- something they did best and enjoyed doing instead of whatever they could find. It could be kind of like
CommunismThe Walking Dead, just without the constant threat of zombies or other people.
