This happened to my LS mate, Kwan, yesterday.

My LS mate have a scorpion harness.

NEEMO, a guy that my LS mate knew and also his static pt member ask him to try on the harness. My LS mate figured that it should be OK since he knew the guy in game. BUT, we should know better T_T, looks like money (gil) is more precious than friendship T_T.

Once Neemo got the harness, he log off immediately and didn't return even after my LS mate waited for few hours. My LS mate managed to get the phone number of that guy from other static member and tried to call, but Neemo didn't pick up.

Our LS members are very sad, since we know how hard my LS mate worked hard for that harness. That scorpion harness is actually his proof of hardwork, (i know it's a game, but still...)

My LS members will make sure there is no more pt and friendship with him, until he returned the harness.

So guys, please, if you ever see this guy, or know him, please ask him to return the harness, since there is more important thing than (STOLEN) expensive gear, and I called it friendship and trust.

Hope everyone can help send tell to this Neemo guy whenever his online so that it will return the scorpion hardness back to my fren kwan.

He is farming so hard to get this armor and now he is so sad because cheating by a friends that he though can be trust.

Why call him? Go to his house and wring his neck instead. You should have better results ^^
Interestingly, did you guys know that in Korea, this would actually be considered the same as stealing property and therefore a crime?

I forgot what game it was, but I remember there was a thing where something like this happened. So many people complained to their lawmakers that this actually passed. People in other countries were trying to figure out how stealing an item that doesn't exist could actually be a crime.
I thought it was pretty interesting. I am not saying we should make it a law, but SE could definitely integrate this into the user agreement using similar wording.
Now what SE could do is enable it so we could record our transactions somehow. For example, if I sought the assistance of a goldsmith to make some kind of item for me, I could record the transaction where I am handing over the materials and a fee to synthesize it. This will prevent him from taking the fee and the materials and logging, running, etc. With the recording I can inform a GM, and it can be dealt with.
The recording could be similar to the ability to record screeshots. Other than having SE log every single thing we say, there's nothing we can really do about it. *shrug*
In any case, I am sorry to hear about the loss of that harness. It's not so much about the item itself. It's about the loss of time dedicated to getting that item. All that time wasted by a hater.

im sorry, and not to sound too harsh but the fact remains...he GAVE it to him...he did not "hack" into his inventory and TAKE it...he willingly handed it over, so he should accept the consequences. Now im not saying he shouldnt be upset, but stealing and permanently borrowing are two very differant things ^^

hey shes actually right...

stealing- to take dishonestly and secretly
borrow- to take on loan

they're not the same but...he didn't take it on loan and hes only missing the secretly part of stealing....so what did he do?

BTW i got these definitions from webster's new world dictionary fourth edition.... not my own i was that damn bored....and if i ever see neemo i'll biotch slap him a few times for ya...

umm... ...it's stealing.

If you lend a car out to a friend under the pretense of trust and the friend then flees the country with it never to be seen again, no judge in thier right mind would say, "Sorry, you willingly handed it over... ...your loss". You have a legitimate claim to your property.

This case is very similiar...but instead of physical "property" you have intellectual "property" (as in time and energy spent aquiring the item) and the judge in this case is the Lakshmi community.

You can't tell me straight up that this guy didn't abuse the trust that was placed upon him for his own personal gain. He stole the item flat out. If this happened to you, you wouldn't be so hasty in blaming fault on the victim.

To sum it up, you don't loose your right to your hard earned item because you lent it to a friend under the pretense of trust and the friend pulls a fugaysi and boots with it. It's your item, if he doesn't return it when you want it to be returned, he is stealing. You don't need laws and courts to tell you that.

Neemo is digging his own FFXI grave IMO. It's a tight-nit community... ...word will get around.

I posted a response to this on teh VN boards, and after reading the responses here, i am somewhat surprised about the different reactions each community board has.

My response: "With a phone number, you can trace an adress.....

And you can get places in life by ******** people over, im not a supporter of it, but it happens everyday. If there was no gain, no one would do it would they? Is also the reason you do not make errors of this magnitude, because it DOES happen, and people WILL do it, especially if you do not truely know the person.

Sorry to hear about your friends bad luck, I sincerely hope that it is something as simple as a DC
."

While the VN community is a little more reserved, more or less expecting solid truth that the individule in question actually has/had intent to steal the item. It is *possible* that is was a DC, all be it at a very very bad time. Thus reserving final judgment until it is known that the accused has logged back online and has made no attempt to return the item.

It is also possible that is was straight up theft. And the community here leans towards swift and strict condemnation/justice, /blists all around, without even comtemplating the benifit of the doubt.

Just surprised by the two distinct attitudes on the two different forums.....

EDIT: the getting somewhere by ******** others over is in responce to a previous post on the VN forum, just 'cause it may seem out of context.....

Well... ...we'll find out for sure soon enough if it was an accidental DC or if it was intentional.

I'm not one to cast blame on anyone without solid facts, esspecially not in an internet game, that wouldn't be fair, true enough. I was merely disputing the notion that if it was intentional, it is a "long-term borrow" and not stealing. Maybe I should have worded my post differently.

It's interesting to see the different response though... ...you're right.

Thank you for all your replies :)

After reading the replies from this forum and ign forum, I think that maybe I am too harsh saying that it is stolen, since maybe Neemo have a RL emergency and have to log. Yesterday we were kind of shocked of this issue, and jumped to conclusion after waited few hours for him to log back in.

Therefore, if someone saw him online and talk to him to return the harness to Kwan, I will greatly appreciate.

We still haven't manage to talk to him since we didn't see him online till today.

Thanks for all the helps, me and my LS - Midgard, really appreciate it. It is a good thing seeing we still have caring community in Lakshmi :)

Hope everything will be sorted out ok ^^;

Wow I never would have believed it if I hadn't read this myself. This is my first post on these boards and have used them to help me when I was confused about steps in leveling my WHM (72 now by the way, WOOT!); but I had heard that someone posted this about Neemo and it makes me very sad. First of all I know him and have PT with him a number of times he is a good player, very fair. I talk to him when he was on Lakshmii many times and this is half the reason he quit this game he told me. Nobody is sticking up for him and that makes me angry, that "cheat" did not happen like that because I remember him telling me about it and how his LS leader was no help in clearing up the whole mess to people in the LS. I hope someone can contact him and tell him to post his side of the story this is very unfair, who was actually there when this "cheat" happened?
