I am not some disgruntled failed parent I don't even have kids. It takes no effort whatsoever to be civilized, but thats off topic. And your point of view on abortion is moot. The point isn't wether its wrong or not but wether it might be offensive or a little too strong perhaps. I also agree calling a GM or something is well extreme but if you honestly have issues with it then by al means DO take it to the next level because now that you stood up for yourself against the majority now don't cower out now with bark and no bite and follow your fight through. I would rather cater to the one respectable parent who gives a sh*t as opposed to the (probably 18-27 yr old crowd who thinks its cool to have a so called educated
opinion on abortion like anyone cares what they think and are gonna play ffxi regardless and find something else to rag about sooner or later).

Ok. The diehards who have the real issue with the word "abortion" are not likely going to be playing a game with magic, demons, its own deity you quest in the name of and small furry woodland creatures they have to smack down with a club. Unless, of course, they have smuggled in eBibles to pass out in front of the cathedral in North Sandy.

Let's be honest. "Abortion" is the issue at hand. In a player's name. Is the player Japanese? It could be a literal bad translation for a BLM giving out D2s. /sh AbortionMage. {Can I have it?} (it's a stretch, but let's go with it bcz we have all seen worse translations. i.e. Engrish.com is full of them).

I am discussing the name issue with my son as I type this and mentioned how much easier life would be if I kept him locked in the closet. He replied "Would you feed us?" which I heard as "fetus" so how much better am I really?

My oldest son is allowed to play if I am around. I am more apt to get upset about someone shouting for handjobs in Jeuno at this point. I lean over /blist add "moron" on his game (unless he does it first. I have good boys) and we move on.

I don't know. I feel pretty strongly against abortion yet I play this game. Personally I don't approve of this person's name, but that doesn't mean I need to get up all in his/her business and make them conform to my ideal. Now, if it was something out of line like say, "FetusInABlender" I might be more inclined to report that.

Personally, I don't care if someone else wants to get an abortion or not. It's not my body and it's not my business.

Back to the topic. Do I care about the name Abortionmage? No. Does it bother me? No. Is Abortionmage trying to jerk people's chains? I would say possibly. I wouldn't let something like that bother me. It's not racist or bigoted. It's his character, so let him name himself whatever he likes.

That name has offended me since the first time I saw it. Its a personal opinion, I know this, and anyone that knows me knows I don't offend easily, hell I live in the OoT on this site. That name just bothers me. I've never had an abortion personally but imagine how someone would feel if they had and regretted it. They log into a video game one day and see something like that. For the men out there, imagine if your lady/wife/love had an abortion and you didn't want her too. You log in one day and see that. This is supposed to be fun and now someone had gone and ruined that for a few people.

Just my 2 cents.

A lot of people seem to think those commercials are funny...

To me they just come across as over the top, trying too hard, rather stupid, etc.

Just me, though!

I just came across 'Bigusdickus' in Jeuno. I didn't know weather to laugh or shake my head, so I did both.

Hmm, I assumed it was a Monty Python: Life of Brian reference.

I have never watched any Monty Python stuff to be honest, so I wouldn't know.

I already reported this name to GMs when i first saw it. I was told by GM "I share your concerns and will investigate whether this is a breach of code of conduct."

There's tasteless and then there's offensive.

I find "Abortionmage" to be in the Tasteless category. With my warped sense of humour I even find it a giggle, but nothing worth telling over the table.

Offensive is that one step beyond Almost-Witty-But-Forgettable. Names like (And please forgive the swears, Alla) "Cumswapper" or "Killjews".

All in all, let the guy/girl have their name. I'm sure some people find it offensive, but for me it seems like someone was trying to turn some heads and make people have a smirk to themselves.

Editted because Alla deemed "snigXXger" (minus Xs) to be a swearword.

That's caused a minor but memorable hassle on the gamefaqs Dragon Quest VIII forum, too. Most people had to learn to refer to one of the abilities in the game as "Sarcastic Snicker" instead of what it actually was.

At least snicker mostly sounds and means the same thing, anyways.

I'm pro-life and I find it hilarious. It's taste is not suitable for some I agree; it would be the name of Sarah Silverman's character if she played.

The name is in bad taste. I do not like it myself. If the GMs took it off it would be nice. Does it seem like they will? No. They leave Fornicator on and its crappy as well.
One thing I wonder about when I see names like that is if it makes more people not want to play in the game with them or does it make more want to play with them. Personally I wouldn't play with them but I have no doubt they would not want to play with me either.
Does it seem to anyone else that people have really been pushing the line on questionable names lately? Of course some always have but it seems to me that more are doing it recently.

Garuda had a "Nodaddyno" mule about four years ago...I think edgy names have always been pretty ubiquitous.
