I've been doing my best to save money recently so I can afford an internet connection at home and its not going so well. It has made me look into alternatives for ffxi play time.
Usually I play at work. I am the counter guy/manager at a tattoo shop, but I don't tattoo, so I have a lot of free time. I do have a fair amount of interruptions there though, and understandably so.
I've been going to Barnes & Noble to play as well, but then I don't have access to a plug and I can only play as long as my battery will hold out.
Then I thought about it... I bet there's a way to tether my blackberry without having to pay the tethering fee. There's a way around everything. I have unlimited data and 3G coverage, and ffxi's bandwidth cap is so low that maybe it'll work.
After much googling and figuring, I got it to work! My laptop sees it as a 115.2kbps dialup connection, and my phone even displays that it is in "Modem Mode", but still recieves calls and txts as usual. Its gotta be using the data connection, right? I hope so... Cause I don't have unlimited daytime minutes and I played for about 8 hours over the past 2 days.
So, does anyone have experience with something like this? My old dynaLS leader did it with a droid or something a few times back in the day, but he's a d-bag and I don't want to talk to him.
I guess I can just not play til after 6pm when my free minutes start for the rest of the month, and see what my bill says. It just sucks because I work 6pm til after midnight 5 days a week, so my prime play time is when the sun's up and my minutes cost money.
Any insight?
Oh yeah, tl;dr Does it cost me daytime minutes when tethering my blackberry through trickery and not paying the tethering fee on my plan so I can play ffxi?
