Inner monologue tells us he wanted a companion, yet a while back he robbed Ichigo of his friends, pride, family and powers and told a shattered Ichigo that he was lucky he let him live. Not to mention he hasn't flinched regarding the death/captivity of practically his entire X-cution group barring Moe and Riruka.

On the bright side, I still like Bleach's art style and the fighting bits are fun enough to watch. I just hope Kubo gets his act together on the story in the near future and give us an interesting backstory on Ginjou and the overall story 'some' purpose again. (Of course not until Ichigo has to get his hollow mask out after nearly dying to Ginjou's hollow powers/mask. Calling it.)
I think he's more looking for someone he considers an equal to him, something I doubt he felt for his former gang members. Combine that with a sadistic twist and I see it making sense imo.
I'm not sure that this fight is going to last all that much longer, nor that Ichigo will be in any serious trouble whatsoever. I mean, the Captains have left the field, I'm not sure about Kenpachi though.
