It's because these people are working for companies whom sell gil. They care nothing about the integrity of the game, or its players (obviously, by commiting the acts they do.)

=\ Nothing we can do at the moment, because the GM's won't do ****.

yep, they'll follow you around in zeruhn too. when you go to mine a spot they'll snipe it. and if you tell them to stop, they'll say "<i don't understand>" and continue doing it. from what i can tell, they put you on /follow and then spam their mining macro so they're hitting the spot while you run up to it. GMs will do nothing about this problem. the best advice i can give is to level thf to the point where you can use flee. that keeps them from being able to follow you.

Make an all purpose mining macro.

/targetnpc
/equip ranged "Somethingelse"
/item "Pickaxe" <t>
/wait 3
/equip ranged "Theoriginalitem"

People using /follow on you? Hit the macro! See a mining point? Hit the macro! You can also make two if you want. Still remember to run in a wrong direction if someone is following you. When you swap, they'll fly off in that direction (I lost a friend I was helping that way once accidently, haha).

The only difference between worker gear & field gear is the defense & lvl requirement. Tho a small minority of HELM'ers will *swear* by worker gear, i have no idea why.

I actually stopped mining because of these. I've been mining for months since January, I tended to greet miners in Zeruhn and Yuhgott, had "mining point races" with fellow miners that we were actually laughing about, and made contacts. Then I had a break for about 2 months, and when I came back to Gusgen, the fun was gone.

Without my /ja Flee I would have been screwed, as there was ALWAYS someone behind me. Either the mining spot was already taken (presumably by a botter as they were there for several consecutive days), or someone was running right at me when I had my first swing with the pickaxe. For the first 2 hours I tried to get along with it, but when I still had 2 out of 5 stacks of pickaxes after 4 hours because I could never completely empty a spot alone, I threw away the pickaxes, sold the last ores, and sold my mining equip.

You know, I actually ENJOYED mining. Everytime I dug up a Darksteel Ore, or even a Gold Ore, I actually enjoyed it not only for the money I would get. Oh, regarding the money; I still remember times when Gold Ore was sold für 9k and Darksteel Ore for 7k. Did you see the prices during the last few weeks? The prices were slashed to 4-5k per Gold Ore and 5-6k per Darksteel Ore, which is quite hefty if you think of the ammounts that were sold.

Also, Mining was my main income. I always hated farming, even though I have a THF as my mainjob. I hate to kill the same monsters over and over, I even dislike leveling sometimes. Even when a rare, expensive item drops, it didn't give me the same satisfaction as when I dig up a Gold Ore. I'm really broke right now, sold my Emperor Hairpin and never had leaping boots. I think I don't have to mention that I'm not really getting party invites at all. So, the point? I've actually been thinking about buying Gil from the people that ruined my way of making it, BECAUSE they ruined it.

Well after all I didn't do it. I'm still pumpin' Gil into a language-specific newbie-LS I've made, I'm still doin' the Promyvion-Missions, buying X-Pots and so on... I get just enough money out of my trips to do that. But when it comes to buy equip for the lvl 40 cap promathia missions, or buy an emp hairpin and / or leaping boots for my main job, I'm stuck as I'm not willing to farm for weeks just to get two items.

Well... let's just hope that Square recognizes this "threat". I don't despise the fact that people are selling or buying gil, I despise the fact that they ruin the economy doing so by undercutting prices and the experience of others.

I quit mining for similar reasons; it just got too overly competitive.

As an example... one day I was mining in Gusgen and I spot a point. So I run up to it and take a swing, and this other miner runs up behind me and starts swinging at it too! The conversation that followed went something like this...

Jackassminer: Point thief.
Cydille: Me? You're the one that ran up behind me when I had it claimed.
Jackassminer: I was clearly watching that point. You just saw me there and ran towards it.
Cydille: Actually, no, I didn't see you.
Jackassminer: Yes you did, liar.
Cydille: Prove it.
Jackassminer: You must have, and you're a liar. I was in plain sight.
Cydille: ... Regardless, I clearly beat you to it and took the first swing, so I had it claimed.
Jackassminer: So? I was camping it though. It was mine.
Cydille: You were nowhere near it, and I didn't see you. And if you were camping it, why weren't you standing on top of the point? I targeted it long before I ran up to it. So you're either a horrible mine camper or a liar yourself.
Jackassminer: STFU. /blist.

The attitudes of the majority of other miners I've met have been similar to this guy's. So I quit, and now I make most of my gil through for-profit Alchemy synths. It's much less competitive, and you don't have to deal directly with idiots.

This may or may not apply to some of you who are miners but from my experience I can say this "I hate all miners!"

Why? You can't even level in Zerun anymore. I was trying to level there the other day, and it's pretty easy to hit 8+ there. I got to 6 and it took forever. All these high level miners are running around killing everything they come in contact with. Heck a while back some whm in AF was training ALL the bats in the place. When I started picking them out of his train and killing them he started screaming at me about how it was "His train" and that I couldn't fight any of them. So I just kept on following him around killing them till he eventually cast banishga II and left. There have been one or two people who were mineing that were nice and would either cure me or throw a protect on me, but most are not.

Just remembered another time... I shout about how it would be nice if they high level people let those of us trying to level kill some stuff. And someone shouts back that the only way they wont kill stuff is if I give them all the drops I get. So yeah, I'm pissed off at miners.

Zerun used to be an awesome leveling place too...

EDIT:: Every time I go in there I always see some of the same people there and same thing with Ghelshba (spelling is wrong I know)

A real miner will never have more than Pickaxes, his mining equip and maybe some crystals for synthesis of the ores he digs up in his inventory (well, MAYBE a LS ^^). Everything else would be a waste of inventory slots, including weaponry.
Those who always change back and forth from usual equip to mining equip shouldn't be considered miners. They're just an advanced version of the farmer species.

When I've been mining in the said zones, I usually didn't fight anything. If I've been strong enough for them without any equip but mining stuff, I've engaged NMs whenever I've been lucky enough to see one (Yuhgott Grotto), but that's mostly it (It didn't even work out, never got a good drop).

This is a matter of definition though; many people tend to name someone a miner as soon as they see him using a pickaxe ;) So I can understand your grudge.

i'm a career miner/blacksmith and please don't hate me. i don't even take a weapon with me into most of the places where i mine. it's a waste of an inv. slot. people who go into zeruhn mines and kill everything they see are attempting to multitask by farming bats for batwings/bat fangs. as far as i can tell, it's a complete waste of time that people who prefer to camp one point engage in. and i agree, people have become extremely rude in the past month or two. before you could /wave other people you saw in field or worker gear and they would always /wave back or say hi. i think some new players don't understand that mining points respawn instantly. meaning as soon as one is taken, another one respawns somewhere else in the mine. so if you team up with another miner and take opposite sides of the mine, you actually do alot better. most people i meet now don't understand this and prefer to follow me around and snipe my spots. or they yell at you for taking a spot they were camping because they were too busy farming bats and nowhere near the point. i have considered quitting mining a couple times, but ingots are my main source of income and i don't have the skills to desynth for them at this point, so i choose to just deal with it. if things get any worse and the gilfarmers start owning the entire mining trade like they have on other servers, i'll probably just quit the game. it's sad, but lots of aspects of playing really aren't fun anymore.

Meph, I ran into the autofollow problem with them as well. All I did was switch equipment then switch it back and watch them run into a wall and move on my merry way. This went on a few times, but after awhile they gave up on me and found a new victim. Easy way to deal with it if you don't have flee. Or if you have invisible, just invisble yourself and watch them run into a wall. :D

yes, i have been sending the /followers into walls lately. usually flee so they don't have the chance to get on me in the first place.

funny thing happened the other day though. i was in zeruhn mines, and there was another guy in field gear mining there. i saw him a few times, and he didn't bother me, so i didn't pay him any mind. but we ended up going down the same tunnel at the same time he kept stopping and trying to get behind me, which is telltale for /followers. so i kept stopping too so he couldn't get behind me. anyway, we came to an intersection and we both hit flee at the same time and ran in opposite directions. apparently he thought i was a spot sniper too^^ he sent me a /tell a minute later and we had a laugh about it. it's nice to see another miner who isn't completely embittered.

i've yet to see any gilsellers in ifrit's cauldron, the only place worth mining.

... and if they do show up, it will be easy as hell to train them.
