A Pet PeeveFollow

I am here today to speak about a pet peeve of mine. And that is people that give you absolutely no warning before they leave. No explanation either. I understand completely that real life things always come up when you're playing FFXI. But people that leave when you've been pting all day and you're just 2.1k tnl with not even a "my grandmother's on fire, i gotta go." Just something along the lines of "{I have plans.}" followed by a warp casting. And it's not like they were provoked into leaving, or there was tension between themself and another member. They just decided it was time to leave. But if you make plans, isn't it considerate to let the party whose time you're stealing know? That way they can either say to their LS "yeah, sure, i can come to that raid on garlaige" or to their homework "5 more minutes, then i'll finish you."
Oh well. Just wanted to vent. I'm done. Thanks for listening. ^^

I feel your pain.. Unfortunately, however, this problem isn't going to go away, as this is a game of people teaming together, and the only filtering agent is the cost of the game, plus a valid credit card. Therefore, we'll encounter all kinds.

What're the reasons for the behavior? It could be anything, really. Perhaps the players are too young to realize how frustrating it is to lose a member instantly. Maybe their parents made them get off the game NOW ("No sass! Come here and eat dinner!" or something). Perhaps they weren't raised to follow any kind of system of manners or code of honor. Perhaps they've just hardened their hearts to the world (and become unsociable).

For people that give things like {I have plans}, or {I'm sleepy}, then suddenly disband/warp, the player in question probably had some kind of problem with the party. Perhaps it wasn't 'leet' enough, Perhaps it didn't have a Ranger/Bard/WhiteMage/Redmage , and that sets them off. Maybe someone has a SLIGHTLY OFF SUBJOB (oh noes! a WHM/RDM?! I'm outta heres noobz lol! *Sarcasm, please don't take seriously*.) Maybe they're just a jerk.

Look at it this way though. These experiences with the lackluster players that quit will make the experiences with the good players that much sweeter. You know if you encounter a player that combats sleep to stick with your party an extra 2 hours because he knows there're no other jobs that mesh with the party that are LOOKING for party... that you are partying with a real winner ^^

It's usually a thing with level ranges. Any parties at 1-33 take a small amount of time to form, and therefore people feel it's not that big of an issue to leave on short notice. Higher leveled parties though, are when you should not be encountering this unless its an emergency. I know I've had things, like a pulled fire alarm, etc. that could cause an immediate interruption.

But just try to remember next time you're forming a party who was the guy that just left in 2 minutes with no replacement. I know if I leave suddenly, and I can't wait for a replacement, I at least make sure one is on the way.

Though at my level, because I know how hard it is to form parties, I try to give 20-30 minute notice.

Yeah, another thing I thought of after I posted this... the person who caused me to post this, a 61 jp whm, made me think. As far as I can tell, the auto-translator is horrible for telling people "I have to leave in (this much time)." And since I don't remember him/her speaking any English, they probably didn't. Not necessarily the excuse, just another possibility. And yeah, the parent thing is a possibility as well. No matter. Thanks for your input all, and excellent points, Wevrain. ^^

A lot of Japanese players who don't speak English do that. There isn't a translation of "I have to go in thirty minutes" or "Can you start looking for a replacement?" so it's really hard to let your party know that you have to go soon when you don't know how.

Keep this in mind... despite the majority of people having a "real life" <<wtf is that>> outside the game, if you're playing with any JP people in the party, becareful of what time of the day it is. I mean, correct me if I'm wrong but ontop of being in a different time zone, aren't they in a different day??

Anyways, I found a posting on another board during one of the days FFXI was in maintenance, and I'll just share it with you all. It's got some Japanese sayings you can type in English to maybe make your communication a little more clearer. I cut and pasted some of it on here but check out the links below for more ideas.

One of my pet peeves is people who don't come to the pt prepared. you should have at least 6 hours worth of food, ammo, ninja tools, etc, etc.

I was in a pt today for 7 hours (5 hours going by the sole sushi time-o-meter) and our BLM left four times (one was legitimate, we took a food break). I wasted a good hours worth of food just sitting around. I'd be level 63 if it wasn't for all the wasted time, instead I'm 4.5k tnl

WTF does this have to do with the post? Crayola's post was on-topic, your's clearly is not. You don't like her post, then rate it down, stop acting like an immature 14 year old, and posting dumb crap because you don't like someone.
