Question on Mining EtiquetteFollow

Ok, I know, IMO, it's very uncool to mine a spot that someone is working on (unless they are camping it like flies on a corpse).

However, 2 miners are roaming in search of a mining spot. Both see it and run to it at the same time. Both whip out their pickaxes at the same time and both hit at the same time. Mine point is still there, at this point is it uncool for both to continue to hit the spot? Should one back off?

I'm just recently getting into mining and am in an area that generally has fewer than 10 people mining. I want to make sure I'm not going to be that miner that steals other people's spots.

What would y'all say?

In all my mining this has never happened to me. Sometimes becouse of lag people will see who got there first differently though. Normally if someone is running right beside me I'll go to another point in another direction. Just becouse someone is running to a point doesn't mean the point will be there, thats why I laugh when I see someone use flee to get to a spawn point and nothing is there but becouse they used flee they missed another point that spawned as they ran by.

If you both get to it and don't know who got it first then i'd just say random for it and if they're there first then let em have it, unless it's like Tanffxia-f or w/e.....

Then again, let me rephrase that... if it seems they're botting it then take it, not like they're there and going to argue with you.

/em Xylos waves to Papawarlock

Oddly events there today had me thinking about making a post about this. I dont remeber racing with you, sorry if I did, the little taru K***** was getting on my nerves ran up a couple times after I had swung more than once, no lag excuses there.

One person is there first fraction of a second or more but first, my "opinion" is that they win the point, move on. Like it was noted above lag etc.. will change the veiws.

Normaly if its a head to head thing I'll run past it and leave them to it giving myself a shot further down. Sometimes I play the fraction of a second game but only when overly frustrated. If you see %90 of the miners there flying towards a point and you have the lead you will get a few one shots at your point more often than not, slow up let them pass and turn tail and reap the rewards of the other 6 open spots they left for you.

I am guilty of many a /slap, /poke, /laugh and /dance while there cuz after 4 hours I get bored as hell, most NA players I bump into more than once I do try to talk to as I go. Sometimes some random teamwork plays out for everyone in the end, split up zones, report arrivals and departures, who to watch for -campers, poachers etc.. A camper story -- after watching her for a while I saw the point spawn, ran up dropped invis and started swinging away ... "WTF you dont own this mine point" my reply "Neither do you" leading into a breif argument over how she was there first, by a good 10-15 minutes ... before she warped out whining all the way.

lol as far as the flee miners go (god i hate them) I wish i had video clips of them hitting flee then running into crates, walls, moblin moshpits etc.. Been tempted to go that way a few times, but whm/blm tele there and warp home nets me more in the end than a few seconds speed.

Mine point campers I have no love or respect for and will gladly poach them. Mine point poachers (even worse) get on the s%^t list.

A while back some frinds of mine discussed trying to start a Mining Union LS to wear while in the trenches, keep tabs on repeat offenders etc..

Heya Xylos!

No, not refering to you. There's a drg that I've raced Meju(??) and a JP that I raced. The only time I really worry about spots is when there's more than 8 of us mining that area.

I just wanted to make sure of mining etiquette so that I'm not the player people curse ye know?

If you wave or say something and I don't respond it's likely that I forgot to take off my filters. When I'm bazaaring I turn says/shouts/emotes off cause I'm too bloody lazy to scroll through the idiocy that doth tend to foul the screen in cities.

The area in which we are mining, I've only seen one person camping a spot but they may have been afk as well. If you see me in front of a mine point doing absolutely nothing and you watch me for a min or two, then I say go for the spot. Due to the fact I'm likely afk, though if I know it's for more than 5 min, I'll just escape out or warp back to home point.

My alchemy is 83 Gold is 34 Black is 39 so if you want to work out any kind of deal let me know. I'm currently saving Darksteel ores under a mule, selling Platinum and Gold ores, and synthing/desynthing every thing else that I mine. Course, I toss tin ore, goblin die and igneous rocks.

See ye round the mines!

hmmm I have too thought of the mining union ls idea but also to somewhat control prices. While we all like to make more profit it eventually comes around to bit us in the rear when we jack up prices on stuff. Some of the ores have doubled in price in a few months yet it still costs roughly the same to mine them. Zinc is the best example when I built norg fame it was roughly 300gil per ore now it is 900-1000 and its not a rare ore drop in several mines (indeed it is more valuable than some rare ore drops).

Edit someone wrote a guide to mining and ethics involved a while back but I couldn't find it. It was a really good guide though and contained a lot of hints and suggestions.

I've seen the prices on zinc and think it's unreal. I put mine up far less than current price. Not everyone tries for a deal though and because of the Utsusemi quest and sales price people don't care.

Far as ethics and mining, I don't mine other people's spots but today had two individuals hit my spot. Not right after I got there but had a couple of whacks under my belt. One apologized. The other one I think is Japanese. Just flipped him off and went my way. There was one player in there that, when he saw me coming would turn back the way he came and kept zig zagging my path.

'eh, oh well. Karma's a biscuit.

i tested this with a friend. we played at his house so we had two tv's in the room and stuff. we both went on the same time in out time, but i was ahead of him on my screen, but he was ahead of me on his screen. so when im neck in neck with a person to a mining point, i let them have it to avoid problems.

Heya!
I would be intrested in working out a trade or what not for items if we are in the mines at the same time give me a shout.

lol zinc ... sigh I've "trained" people to mine certain areas with a few rules they had to agree to before I would show them my routes etc... #1 no price jacking #2 dont be an a$$hat to the regulars.
I saw zinc at 1200 this morning /sigh I would like the extra profit but I dont agree with that at all. All it does is make it sell more slowly I sell between 400 and 500. Now I dont mind the overbids at all but when I spend 8 hours down there I would prefer to have my 21 AH slots empty when I get back rather than cross my fingers and wait 2 days for my over priced stuff to sell at a small profit gain.

Get out of my mining home! Hah, just joking. I've seen you where I 'go'. Keep it hush hush. Anyways, just try not to take points other people are at, and I'm not sure how to handle people who just take yours. I've never run into that problem yet, because most the people I see are respectful of a claimed mining point.

Most are, some aren't. I've seen a couple stand at one spot for a long time.

Not sure but if someone's standing still for more'n 3 min and there's mine spot, is it free game if they not synthing/desynthing or mining?

/wave Papawarlock. I think I saw you last night in my favourite mining zone :)

Lag does result in people seeming to reach a spot after you. Generally, if they get the first swing in, I just leave. There are other points so I'd rather not waste time arguing about it.

I generally avoid mining a zone with more than 3 miners. I'm too impatient. I know the best times so I just plan around that. I also recognize which miners are not so polite and avoid them.

If someone is standing in front of a spot and does nothing for a long time, then by all means, take it. I was synthing by a spot that had depopped and went afk. When I came back, the spot had likely repopped and someone was mining it. Fair game.

Interestingly, I was logging in GO once and a little taru kept logging on top of me. I sent him a tell saying it was impolite. He said he didn't think so. I asked him if it was fine for people to bud in front of him in a movie line. He said he didn't mind. We ended up having a long conversation where we both explained our points of view. His was that this was a game and he was having fun and didn't see it as rude. In the end, we agreed to disagree, but in a very nice way. :)

Heya Night!

I'm in my mining spot most mornings for a few hours. Sometimes half dozen or so of us there, sometimes ah'm all alone. Gives me something to do whilst the l'il one's at school.

There've been a few times me and another miner hit the same spot at the same time. We both whack it, then ah'll just head on down the road so as not to fight over it.

Just spent about 90% of what ah made mining in the last week on blm gear. 1.6 mil plus 300k for Gobbie Bag VI. ::sigh:: Time to do some more hard core mining.
