This is a follow-up to something that I posted in the Midgardsormr server here.

I got flamed a little for posting it, but held my ground. I can kinda see why some people were mad about asking what's good about their server. Though I don't agree with it, I do feel somewhat bad since similar threads are popping up on their once-peaceful servers by potential competition. Not just level 1's either, levels 1-75 and they have no control over it. Time will pass though, and things will return to normal. One day a new bane of existance will be found--or they'll just go back to complaining about campers and gil sellers :).

So that brings me to this thread. Reading over the Midgarsormr servers let me know how lucky we have it here on Shiva. By all accounts, we should be severely messed up: we're overpopulated, we're the second oldest server, we are filled with gil sellers, and the list goes on. Yet somehow things are going good with us. Our population base is strong, most mobs aren't overcamped (you always have a chance at getting something) and the economy has always been relatively stable. So why is this?

One of the posters on the other server said that the only real difference between us and them are the people. Not only do I agree, but I see exactly where he is coming from. Shivans have some of THE best attitudes on the game. Sure we complain about things on the game, but most of us do things to correct it. We rarely hear about the good things though. Mostly we just post the bad.

Take Uchipu for example. He got tired of the lack of things to do, the constant competition, and everything else that makes this game suck at times. So what did he do? He organized people to get together on monday's to do fun stuff. Not even people from the same LS...people from all over! He saw a problem and he went to fix it, and our server is a better place for it. It's that type of attitude that makes us great.

I could go on and on, but I don't want to. Instead, I'd like to hear from you. What do you think is good about Shiva? Why is Shiva the place to be?

I have to say hands down the people. Ive never played other servers, but i have read threads on other servers forums, and they have their share of problems. Besides the random weirdo troll on this board, and of course everyone takeing their agression out on Cray, this board and server in general is extremly peaceful.

If you need help with something, posting it here, or even shouting in jueno, you will always find people willing to help. Stuck somewhere and need a D2? someone will almost always help. Runnning for your life from a mob, someone will almost always help. Got an add and cant handle it, someone will almost always help. I think overall, this server has a very good bunch of people, and i think our stable economy is because of that. Sure there are bad apples here and there, but we weed them out very quickly, and they exist no more!!

Boy it's a sad day when ole Sophus can't tell a guy from a girl....

Sorry about that though. Never had the pleasure of meeting HER, I just know that SHE is one of the reasons Shiva rocks. :)

Sophus.....What's so good about Shiva? I can't compare other servers, and have only been playing on-line game since October so I can only speak to my experience. I'd say the people - hands down. When I saw the post about server migration, my only thought was that there would be no way I would go to another server! The people I've met and friendships I've made go way beyond any desire to leave our server - for any reason! I'll take lag any day over leaving Shiva. Shiva players truly help each other - whether they've met, or never met with anything from quests, missions, coffer key, LB, AF, whatever someone shouts for. I read these message boards all the time (while I'm at work o.O). Yes, we have our ups and downs, people who don't get along and disagree, but you know what folks? That's what makes the world go round - in rl and in Van A Diel!

It's not for people on Midgar-whatever (it means World Snake, or more specifically Middle-Earth Serpent) to decide if people come there or not. I find it simply amazing how once they figured out they were going to be one of the servers that could recieve immagrants, the posted "Midgar Sucks, our economy blows, HNMs are botted like hell" threads.

Fact is Shiva is overpopulated. Midgar is not. This is helping Square-Enix out, by taking the load off of alot of the servers and balancing out world populations. That may mean nothing for them. But again, it's not for them to decide. Did they post stuff like this when people would just ask for World Passes? No. Remora, Hades and Midgar-whatever should just take the sticks outta their ***** and deal with it. It's not their server, they just play on it. Sure we all pay to play, but that doesn't give us any form of ownership. If you don't like it quit.

I agree, it's the people. We don't have a lot of meanies I don't think. I can't harldy walk though any level of Jeuno without seeing someone nice I know and give a friendly wave to. There's two people on my blacklist and over thirty on my friendlist. That's just it - there are so many nice people on Shiva.

*sniff sniff* i lurv u guysssss

Oh I heard an interesting "could-be" tidbit of gossip on why they're doing this:

Actually read this yesterday on #ffxi

~~"I think they're just going to ban a crapload of accounts"~~

is this a legit reason why they'd do server migrations? the person also said Midarsormr is overpopulated at the time.

me: ????
Im just confused. XD

I think this forum is part of the reason the Shiva server rocks. It's like a waking up and reading the paper before you go to work mentality.

I read about a lot of people, good and bad, and then I see them in rl(Shiva) and go wow there goes Crayola and there goes Rokugen and hey that was Uchipu I just saw and ooh Minivyre or ooh Glitterngld or ooh Pyaarakes or man I never knew Seppuku could be so mean(ie doesn't party with RDMs who don't have Dispel). Well, welcome to people; at a moment they are themselves, selfish and kind.

It gives me a great sense of "rubbing elbows with the big guys" when I spot someone famous I know... even though "it's only friggin Crayola, what's so great about her?!" lol^^

BTW, in resp to y males play whm, I think less males should play whm. I also think they should play less tank roles too. In fact, my vote is for more female tanks. Why? Cuz you can imagine as a male Taru THF how tired I get of looking at a male's backside.

Another thing that's great about Shiva is that (save a few HNMLS members) we remember that this is a game and we don't take everything seriously.

My best example of this was when we found someone new to pick on and Cray said to him "yeah picking on crayola is soooo last month." I broke out laughing.

(And then a few weeks later it went back to Cray :). )
