I did read it. It really didnt have much to do with religion until people started to stry off topic.

Dude. You seriously need to work on yer reading comprehension skills. The whole of the item that was posted was about Religion. The original poster posted an email that she felt she needed to share. It was an interview with the daughter of a well known religious leader, in which the interviewee made plain that we aren't religious enough to keep our nation safe.

Quote:
Billy Graham's daughter was interviewed on the Early Show and Jane Clayson asked her "How could God let something like this happen?" (regarding the attacks on Sept. 11).

Quote:
Anne Graham gave an extremely profound and insightful response. She said "I believe God is deeply saddened by this, just as we are, but for years we've been telling God to get out of our schools, to get out of our government and to get out of our lives.

And being the gentleman He is, I believe He has calmly backed out. How can we expect God to give us His blessing and His protection if we demand He leave us alone?"

Quote:

Probably, if we think about it long and hard enough, we can figure it out. I think it has a great deal to do with "WE REAP WHAT WE SOW."
Funny how simple it is for people to trash God and then wonder why the world's going to hell. Funny how we believe what the newspapers say, but question what the Bible says.
Funny how you can send 'jokes' through e-mail and they spread like wildfire but when you start sending messages regarding the Lord, people think twice about sharing.
Funny how lewd, crude, vulgar and obscene articles pass freely through cyberspace, but public discussion of God is suppressed in the school and workplace.
Are you laughing yet?
Funny how when you forward this message, you will not send it to many on your address list because you're not sure what they believe, or what they WILL think of you for sending it. Funny how we can be more worried about what other people think of us than what God thinks of us.
Pass it on if you think it has merit. If not then just discard it... no one will know you did. But, if you discard this thought process, don't sit back and complain about what bad shape the world is in!

Out of these quotes what part doesn't speak of religion? The in between was filled with the "Negative Effects" of the "removal" of God from the school systems.

Is God just a noun to you with no meaning? Every time you mention God you are referencing religion.

ooooo, I really wish I hadn't come across this post, I could spend hours boring you all with my opinions on religion.

I'll just try to keep it short. I don't know that I would consider myself an athiest ... I'm pretty sure there is no God, but there are times when I'm able to convince myself its possible, and a lot of the time I hope there is a higher power, but 99% of the time I am convinced there is no God.

I do resent most religions, because all too often they preach one thing and practice something completely different.

I don't think of myself as fashionably atheist, although I do understand where one might get the idea that atheism is becoming a trend.

The most important thing I want to mention here though, is how unfortunate I think it is that people find religion and morality to be almost synonymous. When people blame a decrease in morality on the growing regulation of Religion, nothing else gets my blood boiling more. If Religion is the basis of morality, then naturally atheism is the basis of immorality.

Thats just plain offensive. I pride myself on never compromising my morals and always standing by what I think is right. Just because I happen to be one of those people that think God should be left for personal life, and kept out of public forums, does not mean that I contribute to a decline in morality.

I don't believe in God so you're going to blame child pornography, violence, and abortions on me? Maybe not me personally, but if you believe the cause of those things are people who do not believe in God, then you're blaming it on people like me.

How offended would you be if I did the same thing to you? For instance, what if I blamed the Catholicism for producing a psyche that made one more inclined to molest children? Certainly I could point to the priest molestation scandle, but do you think it would be fair for me to lump you in with them just because I disagree with your religion as a whole?

So while you may not agree with atheism, please try to understand that there are good people and bad people in both camps.

Tricen, Pagans and Jehovah's Witnesses are religions.

The topic is about god and religion in our society.

What part of that did you miss?

guess it's my turn at bat on this one... ^_^

There's point where Religion becomes a bad thing... Remember the Crusades? Millions died just because they didn't believe in Christ the way the Europeans did. How about the times in Asia where whole Temples of Buddhist monks woudl be lsaughtered just because they believed more in their faith than in the Lord that held power over the land their Temple was on? And of course, i'll even use 9-11 as an example: A group of people got together to devastate and attack america just because we don't belive the same way they do. I mean... is it really impossible that some of the people that died in 9-11 were Muslims as well? think about it.

America is a diverse and great place. It's rare to find a country where you can walk across the street as an atheist and meet a Catholic, a protestant, and a hindu all withing three steps. The problem arises when those beliefs clash, just like during the crusades... People are willing to die for what they believe in, and that's human nature.

But to say that prayer in shcool is bad... to say that Bad stuff happens to America because we're not religious enough... to say that God = Religion... it's all just really, really indignant...

Honestly, I think organized religion is the biggest mistake humanity's ever made... but that's just me... Everything has it's purpose. And to say that people can't pray in school, or that our President's bad because he prays every day... C'mon people!! America was founded on the ideas of Religious tolerance and acceptance. So what if teh guy next to you is Jewish? So what if the youngest member of your Orthodox Catholic family Converts to Shinto??

It's like people that pick their nose... They're not picking your nose... So let it go!

Of course, i don't condone any of the bad things that were mentioned in that initial post... Though most of them were funny to me, including the pornography one... But think of it this way... I like girls, so does that mean that by my liking the same gender i'm going to hell?? I doubt it.

In the end, God, Allah, Jehova, Osiris, Zeus, whatever you wanna call him/her/it... It's all the same, just with different names. A little faith goes a long way... a Lot of faith may make you seem overly devout... but excessive amoutns of faith lead to really bad things.

The Bible was not written by God. It was not Written by men that were inspired by God... It was written by Men who saw their lives being Touched by God.

Faith has it place in everyone's life, and to challenge someone's faith usually gets them upset.

Last thing: Stuff like this doesn't need to be On the Shiva Forums... FFXI was made to escape Reality... Let's try to leave it that way, yeah??

The real goal of government is decency. We choose our leaders to protect the greater good from decaying. I believe it is the Bible that first took an account of our actions and became the first collection of acts that we could learn from. As such it is a very holy thing and is valuable beyond measure with respect to other written works.

We have our own bible now of course, it is called the Constitution. It states that noone has the right to judge because indeed 12 people get the right to judge. Even laws can be ignored by these 12 people chosen from the public from the opposing parties. Our intention in making our government just, has always been the light of the world in my opinion. I would stress to you all that we are in the RIGHT country doing the RIGHT thing for the benefit of the whole world perhaps.

However, one thing IS certain is that over and over again in history the populace has decayed into the "immorality and corruption" of a few in power who have then been overrun by the many "murderous and oppressed" who then re-establish another government that tries again to do it the RIGHT way. That is happening now. The more peace there is, the more freedoms start to become commonplace, and the more general disrespect there will be for your fellow man; and the more it is acceptable for you to steal from him. lol

Our fate is inescapable, we might as well just enjoy our days by enjoying the time we spend daily doing whatever we like. We can try to change the world but trust me that it will change just fine with or without your influence, slower perhaps, but it will still change. Do you want to do what is right? You can't unless we all agree and that is what can never happen.

On a higher note, I CAN tell you what will bring you happiness is your children and your friends. Your family and your job give you what can be perhaps the highest sense of accomplishment there is to get. YOU are able to sniff out contempt among your peers and bash them for it. I would as counsel advise everyone to get married and have children as quickly as possible cuz those people, happily married people with children, are perhaps the most confident and best example of people we all should be.

ps. if I am judging you, I don't mean to, these are just words that explain how I see things.
