All i can say is wow. Why not help your friends out or something like that, and give them a few of the non-rare/ex items. But I guess that is one way to make sure that you don't want to ever come back. I sure as hell wouldn't want to come back know that I threw all that stuff away.
I really hope that it was the guy quitting and not some hacker tossing all his stuff.
On that note, ouch! I can see tossing the Rare/Ex or Ex stuff as it's not to any use but he could have made some LS mate or even some newbie happy by either giving them the equipment or selling it and giving the gil to someone.
I shudder to think of all the time getting all that to just toss it away.

just about everything he tossed there was r/e, except for some prism/oils, and a piece of errant gear that I saw... thats not a sure-fire way to keep you from coming back though..
I know a few people who did just that (gave everything away and tossed all the r/e), then still came back :(

I would guess that seeing his name is Meatball that he just probly bought 6 Meatballs to toos last just to display a sort of Irony.

Since I have a short attention span, I did something similiar after a year of playing. Then came back, and did it again. And came back again (I guess I like to torture myself with the same first 30ish levels).
The only difference is I did a I'm-quitting-the-game-and-not-coming-back Sale (twice). It was a fun 15 minutes...I send a shout every couple of minutes (once I restock my bazaar) and sell the equip for, say, 500 gil for a Noble's Ribbon, or a couple hundred for Pearl Rings. In the end I had a nice little crowd around me hoping for more.
After all was said and done, I gave like 80k to some noob walking by, just cause I wish someone could have done that for me when starting (then starting again, and again).
That's all I wanted to say.

Guy 1 takes a break from game
Guy 2 and 3 who were his friends for a long time log on his account which guy 1 entrust to them and take all his gear
Guy 1 comes back sees hes gear gone, guy 2 and 3 deny everything
Guy 1 Logs on Guy 2 character finds his gear and gets revenge. Guy 2 forgot guy 1 had his password.
