As many of you know, I was about one log in from quitting the game. One of my friends then told me "Hey shaol, try black mage." I had always hated the thought of mage classes, but since I was about to quit, I figured the hell with it.
I got addicted.
I'm now going full-force black mage to 75, as I really love the job. Why? A few reasons...
1.) Thief rules at making money, so I can pimp my character, wielding the best equipment around.
2.) Black Mage is useful in just about every situation. Especially on the ones thief falls short on, like Gods and King HNMS.
3.) Black Mage gear is much, much easier to get than Thief. Most of the stuff on Black Mage is cheap all the way to 75, with an exception being the Igquira gear. The "leet" stuff costs generally less than a mil, and that's not that hard to get at all. Plus, nearly all of the scrolls and spells that are expensive can be obtained through quests. Finally, one of the hardest items I've heard mages complain about is the Moldavite Earring. A Quick comparison:
Mysticmaker Profilbix:
Is a guaranteed 2 hour spawn with a 30% drop rate. Is found in Labyrinth of Onzozo and is easily soloed by a 75 thief. Mobs in surrounding area are things like simple goblins and cockatrices. Is camped by players often, but as the drop is rare/ex, no camper ever becomes "good" because they need it once.
Sozu Rogberry:
Is a 1-16 hour spawn with a 2% drop rate. Is found in Temple of Uggaleipih and is soloed easy if the Thief manages to get him outside of the room. Even then, there are thousands of MPK attempts on the fight, as well as a wandering level 70 tonberry ninja, who can end your life very quickly. Is camped 24/7 by gilsellers, and as the knife is not ex, a monopoly is formed and thus it is impossible for some players to get the claim.
So, as you can see, Sozu is a much, much, MUCH harder camp that Mysticmaker Profilbix (actually, than any NM I can think of in the game).
4.) Black Mage never waits long for parties. I hear them complaining all the time at how "Oh I can't get a party invite today and ..."
I have never once in my life met a black mage who has been seeking a party for four days straight without an invite. I have done this several times as thief, and I know some dragoons who have gone possibly longer.
So in conclusion, no I don't hate thief. It's probably my favorite job in the game. But I'm going to level black mage next, as it truly is very fun and not impossibly difficult to pimp out.
