Well I thought I'd shed some light on this guy for people who plan on killing him in the near future. First of I've lost about 20k exp fighting this guy, some people have had it waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay easier then I have, so my hats of to them(Wiped 2 times at 1%). But for those like me, well I'll tell you what I know and perhaps it will get you the win.

First off the set up:

Stunners are a must, their is no way around it. Tanks, well it's really up to you and what you can get, Plds work well, Nins to well also, hell even Pld/nin works. Or even having a Pld and a Nin. From what I've heard the Pld Whm combo works great. Now feel in the DD spots of course most of you will have smns along Blms are helpful as well. I would assume, though I haven't tried it, that bringing other DDs like mnk sam War etc etc that the only stun capibilty is a WS could work, but make sure you have enough stunners. I normally go as Rdm/Drk. Your main focus is to just stop Nightmare, nothing else.

Now once you have damaged him to 50% He will SPAM, let me repeat that SPAM Nightmare. At 40% He will use his 2hr. Now here is the kicker. At 50% or less I would CS stun, I stunned countless Nightmares and his 2hr, BUT he resisted one of my stuns and got a nightmare off. But thats not the kicker, what he did after was his 2hr AGIAN, even though I had previously stunned it before, now for me I hope thats a glitch, and as soon as I learn how to post Screenshots, I can show you. So what I'm saying is, pretty much at 50% you have to kill him FAST, basically go all out. Also you have to make sure his Magic Def Bonus is down, or he resist a Rdms stun... wait no, he just laughs at you.

Anyway, this was sort've a rant/guide, feel free to add info if you wish and I'll get on that Screen shot posting.

Might I make a suggestion? I've never fought the guy, but I have a tip for you if you keep losing at ~1%hp.

Have everyone use a reraiser/hi-reraiser during the fight. Right when you are about to die, cast Bio and any other DoT spell you can get off. Then one-by-one, you take turns reraising and recasting bio/etc so that it can't run off or allow him to regen. It's a slow process, but it's safe and I guarantee it'll knock down that HP for you.

my static party went in as NIN/WAR, NIN/RDM ,DRK,MNK and 2x WHM
and we beat him fairly easy. An additional info i would like to share is that all those remove tiles will have a different color than unremove tiles. You can tell when you enter an arena and before you drop down. The remove tiles will have light color. Most of time it's between me (NIN/WAR) and NIN/RDM share hate for spam nuking on him. Tank bring regen food and many hi-potion will help a lot too.

We got up from RR just to try and get a spell off, but since he spams Nightmare, we got caught. We did get him with Dia II once, but... it didn't work sadly ; ;

Stun
Stun is resisted after about 10 Stuns. So if you Stun before 50%, your stuns will get resisted for the last half. Make sure you go easy on the stuns until he starts to spam.

Tile (same as CoP)
Tile that doesn't go is the one at his Initial Position, last tile second row from right (if facing BC), and center tile last row.

Reraise
Diablos has Dispelga. Need it or not, put up dummy junk buffs. I had Pro/Shell, Stoneskin, Aqua, Blink, Barstonra (junk), Barsleepra, Haste, Regen, Food, Deodrize (junk) & then Reraise. I think at one point I had Warcry too from the NIN...

WHMs
It's a little like Fenrir. As soon as you see the 2HR log run in the window, pull a Benediction. Don't even wait to confirm if it was stunned, because after 2HR he will Nightmare again. You want to make sure your PT can last thru the Nightmare.

Also worth taking the time to look down from above to see which tiles will drop. If one of the upper corner tiles (i.e. the row he starts on) isn't going to drop, it is possible to keep your mages out of range of nightmare, thereby making it much easier to deal with when he gets it off.

Uchi was dead on about the WHM's role though. You're there to keep people alive until the 2hr hits, then get benediction off. He's going to nightmare right after his 2 hour, so you'll want everyone at full health in case it isn't stunned or the stun is resisted.

Another strategy that works very well, if you have a bunch of BLM friends bored, is 5x BLM + RDM/DRK. BLM's all cast their highest aga spell from above, then when everyone gets drawn in, have the RDM CS + Stun. BLM's nuke until dead, which he should be before CS wears. But as you can see, this only works if you just happen to have a boatload of BLM friends laying around.

But good posts, would have been helpful to read before I died to him 9 times.

I went with RNG/SAM, SAM/WAR, RDM/DRK, and 3 BLM/WHM. We beat him in about 30 seconds by opening with Blizzaga then having the SAM 2 hour and chain light and bursting Thundaga while the RDM/DRK chainspell stunned.
