A New Year's Present from FUFollow

We at FableUnity (FU) know that it's tough to find a good linkshell. Everyone (even the most antisocial of us) is looking for a place to call home. So we look, we search, and we accept pearl after pearl to find a place that we enjoy being. Then, just as we find the "right" one, something goes wrong. Unfortunately, that leaves many of us still searching.

The truth is, we never really know what we're getting into until it's too late. And since there's no place to look up this information, we are forced to go by word of mouth. Word of mouth, though good, never gives you the full picture.

So to help all the Shivans of Vana'diel, FU is going to do something very unorthodox: we're going to start carrying info about other linkshell on our website:

http://www.fableunity.com

We won't ask for anything in return, but there are a couple things we'd like you to keep in mind:

1) We will only link to info pages of linkshells who offer content which FU currently does not.

FU is a linkshell that is social, does events/CoP/Zilart/missions, and basically whatever else our LS currently wants. Therefore, we wouldn't post links to other social LS, CoP, etc info pages.

However, we are not currently into the HNM/Sky/Dynamis scene. Because of that, we would be happy link info pages to your social LS that also offers Dynamis. If FU ever began doing Dynamis, however, we'd have to remove those links.

2) We won't advertise for any linkshell

FU is its own linkshell; we're not trying to recruit for others. We also don't want people to think that we're playing favorites. So to keep it fair, all we will publish is the link to your info page--nothing more. Nothing (not even our message boards) will have any recruiting advertisement from any LS.

3) The info pages must be just that: an info page.

The point of doing this is to give Shivans a way to read up on your linkshell, its history, and its policies *before* they apply or ask for a pearl. That's not something you can get from a main page. Therefore--while it can contain a link to your main page--it must be able to stand on its own. By having an info page, you can tell a potential member everything they need to know before the pearl hits their hands.

The pages will be hosted by your site and linked to ours. Since it has to be an info page (and not your main page), you may have to create something especially for LS information.

Be creative! Put LS stats, sackholder's names, history, a link to your main page...whatever you want. It's your page! Think of it as a flyer that tells people everything they need to know up-front. It's a lot easier than browsing through user-resticted message boards to find answers.

These info pages may cause some of our own members to choose another linkshell over FU...and we're fine with that. We'd rather that our members had a LS that fit all of their needs. Besides, a linkshell is a choice--not a responsibility. Our purpose is to give those looking an easy way to gather information about a LS they may want to join.

Hopefully this works out well. If it doesn't, it doesn't. But we'll never really know until we try :) . Drop me a line, or post if you're interested.

Even though we haven't gotten any responses from this thread, FableUnity is still dedicated to trying out this idea.

A major benefit to having LS info pages is that they can be used for multiple purposes. And--if done right--they can help you find exactly the people you are looking for. Rather than having potential members randomly guessing at which LS/HNMLS/Dynamis LS/etc is right for them, they can know beforehand. So not only is it a benefit to the player, but think about all the trouble (and drama) that'll save your LS later on ;) .

Even if you don't want to participate, don't own a LS, or only want to put in some feedback, any constructive response is welcome. If this helps the players of Shiva, FU wants to see it happen.

I used to help lead an ls that dealt with stuff like that.... I seemed to end up doing zm4-5 and promys more than once a week... then a majority of people leave for other ls's ..... cause it just fulfills their requirements to join other ls's they want to be a part of....

Just warning you ahead of time in case you dont like being used.

I appreciate the advice; it's something we've already thought a lot about.

Linkshells grow in both number of players, and player levels. Unfortunately, not everyone is happy staying in that linkshell forever. Some members grow discontent and want for more than their linkshell can give them. Many good linkshells have ended because of this...and it's something that no LS is immune from.

Luckily, FU has the benefit of containing players from nearly every type of LS. When someone in our linkshell wants something "more," these other players offer information about their other linkshells. If it seems like a good fit, the member requests a pearl or applies. However, something is inevitably left out where word-of-mouth applies. The player soon grows discontent, and never fully lives up to their end of the bargain.

That's how places like HNMLS end up having to kick members weeks/months after they've joined--the player never really understood what he/she was getting into beforehand. And that's what we're trying to avoid. We want players to be informed about you.

Given, FU won't host *all* links to these pages because it would be doing a disservice to us. However, we will host links to any and all info pages for linkshells who offer content that FU currently does not. If you are willing to make the page, FU is willing to link it to our site. Hopefully then, people will know more about you before blindly asking for a pearl.

And if things work out, we might even be able to put together a "yellow pages" of sorts with the info pages from several linkshells. The end result, hopefully, will be that people will undersand the linkshell before they ask for a pearl. Hopefully the end product will be happy players...and happy linkshells.
