First Aid or Alchemy?Follow

#1 Jan 06 2005 at 12:36 PM Rating: Decent
I am new to WoW and I was trying to decide on my trade skills. I am a Tauren Warrior and I am trying to decide on whether to pick First Aid or Alchemy as a trade skill (I have already decided on Blacksmithing, unless I should replace that too). This is a question to more high leveled in both EXP in game and in trade skills to which one would be more benifical to a Warrior, bandages to heal or oils to improve armor and weapons. Thanks a lot.

You can have both.

First Aid is a secondary skill and Alchemy is a Primary Skill.

So you can have Blacksmithing and Alchemy as your primaries, and First Aid as your secondary.

But may I offer a bit of advice. If you want to go the rout of Smithing then I would Mine as my second Primary skill. Materials are going to be hard for you to come by if you don't. And they tend to be very rare and pricey on the AH.

That or you can do Herbalism and Alchemy being you need herbs and such to make the potions.

Idealy for you you would have Mining and Blacksmithing as your 2 Primary Skills, and Firstaid as a Secondary. That would benefit you the most in the long run.

Hope this helps.

First aid is a secondary profession (along with fishing and cooking). You may have all 3 secondary professions as well as 2 primaries. In other words, first aid is a freebie everyone can have.

As for your primaries- if you take blacksmithing, you need mining. Mining will get you the raw materials to make into weapons and armor. Without it, you'll need to buy them all from other players. Blacksmithing/alchemy would be particularly bad, as the raw materials for alchemy come from herbalism which you won't have either.

Generally, if you want to make stuff, you need to take professions in pairs. Mining/blacksmith, Mining/engineering, skinning/leatherwork, herbalism/alchemy. The only trade skills that do not have an associated gathering profesion are tailoring and enchantment.

Thanks for the help, I didnt realize that. In the manual it showed First Aid as a Production Trade skill and only Fishing and Cooking as a secondary.

First Aid, since Alchemy is a prime profession and it will require Herbalism, which is as well a prime profession, unless you would like to get rid of Blacksmithing. If I were in your shoes, I'd do Blacksmithing/Mining, and First Aid, First Aid is secondary profession.

First aid was origionally a primary, but with the patch it became a second. The guide was made before the patch, thats why its different.

Another possibility for consideration, if you don't want to smith is to do 2 gathering professions.

I have a char that is mining and herbalism.

I make nothing, I sell everything and let me say its a pretty good living.
