The connection between the Philosopher's Stone to AlchemyFollow

First, Sorry for my nick. I tried approx. 50 nicks and they were all taken..
Second, This is for people who are interested. It was quoted and translated out of Britannica (http://www.britannica.com) New Hebrew Edition

"Alchemy is the name of an ancient art, used to change ('transmute') certain metals to other metals (such as copper to gold and silver)"

"In the Middle Age people still believed that Aristo, the Greek Philosopher, was right when he said that anything under the sun was made out of four elements - Earth, Air [Wind], Fire and Water.
They ('the alchemists') estimated that all the different materials (included in which, the metals, ofcourse.) are only different one from another in the four elements that they are made of, and they estimated that by changing the elements you can turn one metal to another.

The Alchemists in that time (abt. 1400 TC) believed in the existence of the "Philosopher's Stone" or "The Elixir" that had the strength to turn normal metals (i.e. copper) to gold and silver, and in few people's opinion - heal every sick person and assure mankind eternal life. This `magic` was called in Arabic, Al-chemy. (Al = The in arabic, i.e. Al madrasa - The School)"

"The Alchemists have been searching for this "stone" hundreads and hundreads of years. People in the community of the alchemists like "Roger Bacon" and Albertos Magnus, known by their good heart and honesty and have discovered great alchemy achievements, Even though many of them were liers and scums."

"In castles, weird people would whisper magic words over bubbling bowls in hope to see many gold for their work. There were people in castles trying to produce gold from copper and [unknown word in english] alone, yet others pereferred to mix for their tests with copper and [unknown word in english], [another unknown word] and Amonium."

I thought this would be enough to explain.. Hope you think it's good.

Yeah, alchemy was daddy of chemistry. ^-^

Been reading up on it (History of Science class), and it also gets really deep in Psychology as well!

Seemingly you had to purify YOURSELF as well as the metal in order for a philosopher's stone to work. Like the philosopher's stone applied any improvements you did to yourself to the metal it was acting on.

It gets really weird. Almost sounds like going through Silent Hill, in a facing your inner demons sort of way (at least SH 2 :P ) Lots of pre-Nietsche (sp?) 'uber man' type philosophy in there as well.

Idk, just some really interesting reading material ^-^

Ever watch the anime Full Metal Alchemist? The world thrives off Alchemy and the Philosopher's Stone is the driving plot of the story.

In FMA, the Philosopher's Stone apparently allows Alchemists to bypass the Law of Alchemy, that is, Equal Trade. "In order to gain something, you must first give something."
