When you reach Leatherworking level 225 and Character Level 40 you will be eligible quest for one of three different Leatherworking paths: Dragonscale, Elemental, and Tribal Leather. Each has their pros/cons...i suggest you research those yourself. As a side note, you can still level past 225 without choosing a path and you will still have many non-specific leather items that you can craft. These branches just allow you to make a few, specialized armor pieces.

Yes, Elemental leatherworking is the most widely accepted leathercrafting path for rogues, and they do make alot of money. However, the regeants needed to make elemental armor are EXTREMELY hard to get in the quantities required for the patterns.

I have herad that tribal leatherworking is an option because of the Devilsaur set:

Unfortunately the rest of the items you make with tribal are absolute crap...so choose wisely =)

As a hunter I would say, choose Dragonscale and do so without doubt. I became a melee hunter at lvl 45 and the mail really helped out with my defense. The stat bonuses are comparable to those of other sets. Its my feeling that you wouldn't be disappointed with that choice.
