I just got skinning at 300 and i am bored with it. The money from it is not that great. I also have mining at 246 and I am thinking about going to blacksmithing. I am 44 lvl Paladin. Someone please talk me out of it. Did i waste my time as a gather.

no you didn't waste time because it helped you to get some money you needed. now if there was a way to cap it at, say 200, and then spend 100 on another craft, you could still do well to make money even with 200 skinning skill.

having said that, as you get higher level, the things you did as a level 10-20 character to make money might need to change. eg as a first-timer with a low-level character, i much prefer to sell linen and wool and silk to make money. as i get higher level or i play an alt, i might now use those to work on first aid skill since my main character is now established with his routine.

not to mention, my high level could farm those items easily and send to my alt..or use a friend/guild members to do a free transfer.

so dont feel bad that your need for other money-making methods now causes you to change. since you got it ot 300, you apparently can survive in the zones that are needed to increase skinning skill. in the worst case, if you decide to re-skill it, it could be as easy as skinning 300 monsters since this game gives skill-ups so easily.

How about I talk you in to it? ;) .. Depending on how you are in-game financially, you stand to make a good amount of profit with blacksmithing seeing as how you've already gotten your mining skill up. The gathering takes time and you'll have to buy leather or other materials here and there, but when you can craft an item that moves well at 40-80g at the AH, its not bad ( not to mention being able to make the same nifty stuff for yourself ).

With 300 skinning, a few more levels, and probably a friend, you can hunt the devilsuars in Un'goro Crater.

Not sure what the price of it is, but it's the only way to get the devilsaur stuff. Check it out, you are so close it would be silly to drop it now.

Unless of course you want to do blacksmithing, which can be fun. Tradeskills are mostly for fun, not as much profit, unless you are an enchanter.

You're exactly where I'm at level 300 skinning at level 45, though I'm not sure if you are a leatherworker too. At my level I'm able to consistantly gather Thick Leather and some Dragonscale. While it's useful for leveling my Leathercraft, for making gold it's almost useless.

As I progress in level it will become more a more viable source of gold when I start getting more consistant Rugged Leather and higher levels of Dragonscale, etc. I too considered dropping it for a while, but it's simply a case of my craft being over my level. I'd say hang on to it.
