Fishing RantFollow

I think I can understand the nerfing of fishing. Dispite that, some of us still like to fish. I've finally hit 300 fishing and have found places requiring 400+ fishing level to catch fish. I'm sorely dissapointed that of the 5 fish catchable in this area, two of them have no documented use.

Yes, high level fish, cooked properly, are useful and sellable to players. The uncookable fish should be usefull for something besides vendor at 70cp each. Electric Eels and Plated Armorfish are my current gripes. I don't need to know what they are for, I just need to be comforted by Blizzard to know that they are useful for something. In 5hrs of fishing at various parts of Deadwind Pass, I pulled 10 Armorfish and a stack or so of Lightning Eels. In addition, I pulled out 3 non-fish items: 2x Mana potions and 1 strong, iron-bound lockbox. The latter required a Truesilver Key to open and contained... thick leather. Perfect, super good in fact.

I can see nerfing low-level fishing. Nerfing a tradeskill that takes myself and other non-botting players possibly 100 hrs to master, it just seems not right. How about un-nerfing the 300+ areas a bit? At the very least, assume some of us have the determination to achieve 300 level fishing and make the fish DO something.

End of rant...for now. :D

Eek,

You, Sir, are a skilled ranter. Good job. My fishing skill is just passed 225 and I'm not having any current issues with what I'm pulling up. Buy you made me feel your pain. Again, well done.

Eak,

I agree with Spittle. You are skilled :)

I'm currently 180 and working on my Fishing Skill. I was hopful there would be some kind of payoff in the end, but now that sounds unlikly. I'll still keep working on it though in the hopes they do un-nerf it.

Here is some hope for you other fishermen. Stonescale Eel. You can catch it with aquadynamic fish attractors and about 200 fishing skill. On my server they sell immediately for 1g each to alchemists. Until then, the oily blackfish and firefins sell for a few silver each. Near as I can tell, the Eel is around 5%-10% catch rate if you are fishing in the right salt water. good luck

Wow...you read my mind I too have fishing skill at 300! I was so excited now that I could fish in Winterspring and such..."too high of lvl, can't fish"...what the hell. Also, you make a very good point about buffing the higher lvl fishing areas. By this time in the game you should be a pretty high lvl and could not fish in these areas, ie: mobs. So, Blizzard needs to change their fishing system and fast becuase I LOVE FISHING!

I also like to fish. Have only been playing a little over a week and fishing is 215. What I'd like to know is where you go to train to get past 225. I've checked every place that I've been. Or is it another manual that you need to purcghase? There are probably a lot more people that do fish and it is a shame that there is so little information on the subject.

I'm at 150 fishing, and so far it's been a lot of fun! I'll need Stonescale Eels for my potions later on (alchemy at around 230 right now), so I need to buy the darn book :-P

By the way, here's the quest for Artisan fishing:
http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?wquest=6607

It involves fishing up rare fish in level 30-40 areas. It nets you 3900 experience, too ^_^. I think the quest is the same for both Horde and Alliance.

The only thing i see fishing good for is keeping a steady supply of food for a pet if you're a hunter, otherwise yeah its prety useless. It would be neat if they incorporated in a need like ya need fish to make armor or some ****, but eh. Fancy pet food and thats about it.

What i would like to know is, what is the use of or the worth of a ten pound mud snapper. Friend of mine caught one the other day and has been carrying it around in his off hand every since. He is hoping when he gets dual wield he can smack someone with it like an angry mobster.

The 10 pound snapper, 17 pound catfish etc are all just for 'boasting rights' AFAIK... screenshot opportunity ;-)

I played in Open beta, before and after the fishing nerf. I still enjoy fishing, but the thrill is gone. You used to be able to catch cool stuff! Often enough it made the time you spent, profitable. Often catching stuff you could use for your lvl, or proffesion etc.

I can understand not allowing low skilled to fish in higher areas. People were fishing lvl 55 stuff at lvl 20. Thats unbalanced, so i agree with the skill requirements.

But WHY the chance of cool items? What purpose does this serve?
Balance? You're standing in one spot for hours, not gaining any exp or doing any quests. You devote all that time to it, and they want to "balance" by reducing the chance! Grr.

I havent many beefs with blizard or wow, i had a ton with FFXI EQ etc. But having come from FFXI and loving fishing, playing before the nerf and having tons of fun with it, I'm sorely dissapointed.
/end rant

I just got fishing to 190 (hiding in booty bay from all the mean horde.) I walked to BB today, never been there before, bought the book, and fished from 150-190. Only died twice. And drowned a fellow in the bay with seduce... hope that learned him a lesson about chasing warlocks underwater :)

Anyway, I've never experienced the joys of fishing up cool stuff since I only started WoW recently. I shouldn't have read this thread, it only made me disastified with my 19 pound whatever :( and 10 stacks of mithril head that I can't even cook because my cooking is 170 (after the 50ish bristle whisker I caught in BB, too. 5 levels short of mithril, boo!) I've been fishing on the off-chance that I would catch something cool, someday.. or something useful or interesting...

...damnit.
