Best place to farm for Wool and Linen Cloth?Follow

#1 Apr 16 2005 at 4:31 AM Rating: Decent
Hi guys,

I'm a human mage, lvl 24, professions taylor (skill lvl 72) and enchanter (skill lvl 40). I'm new to this, as I just switched from herbs and alchemy. So all advice appreicated.

I'd appreciate advice on a really good place to farm for linen cloth and wool (can be seperate places). Just south of Abuerdine seems good for linen cloth.

WHere's good for wool?

Thanks.

Hmmm, well, if you have a high-level guildmate, have them run the deadmines. You'll end up with at least 4 stacks of each: the normal guys tend to drop up to four linen; the elites drop up to four wool.

Pretty sure that the upper-level Defias in Westfall drop cotton as well, but I can't remember: it was so long ago ^_^;

At around lvl 24 the best place to get Wool is mosshide fen in the wetlands. The mosshides are about lvl 24 themselves and nearly all drop 1 or 2 wool.
Ive found the best for linen is stonesplinter valley in loch modan, theres loads of troggs and they all drop 2 or 3 linen each. The troggs are al lvl 10-12 so at lvl 24 its should be easy to get loads without having to stop killing to heal.

before i quit tailoring, I used mobs in moonbrook for just linen, deadmines drop mostly wool and lots of that if you want wool, the undead at ravan hill in duskwood was very good for me too but i was getting it faster in deadmines, for just linen i killed mobs right outside in moonbrook and they common drop linen.

This might work for Alliance, but what about wool drops for Horde folks? I had my 25 rogue in south Barrens trying to collect wool drops off Razormanes for a mage friend's tailoring, but the drop rate there stinks. I got as much silk off 22-25 mobs as I did wool, and completed three quests at the same time (Weapons of Choice, Betrayal from Within and Washte Pawne).

Any thoughts on wool collecting for Horde - maybe the level 22-24 furbolgs in Ashenvale?

Is it just that there's not much wool out there because everyone jumps immediately to silk?

I know that the Defias in Westfall and Elwynn Forest drop quite a bit of Linen, but I'm not too sure about the Wool. When I need Linen, I just farm it off of the Defias. Hope this helps, even though it has been said before.

I was just farming Horde wool with my lvl 16 priest and a lvl 16 warrior friend. We hit up the harpies in the Northern Barrens...the Dry Hills.

The lvl 15-16 harpies were linen...the 17-20 mostly wool. The drop rate wasn't as good as I'd like but in 30 mins we had 32 wool and 40 linen plus cash and a few greens.

My “secret” spot for gathering linen used to be the small trog island in the loch. There’s a large island in the loch with a trog fort, and just before it, if you are coming from the dwarven dock, is a small island with one trog camp and a couple of wondering trogs. This island used to be a death trap for characters of the appropriate level, which I believe is in the mid to upper teens. But the same thing that made it a death trap made it perfect for farming linen, at least for a high level melee character.

The reason this island was such a good farming spot was because it was bugged. There was ALWAYS at least one trog on the island. It didn’t mater how fast you killed them, there would always be at least one trog spawning. The trogs would overwhelm people trying to kill them for xp. But when I took my level 43 rogue there it meant nonstop killing. The only thing that slowed him down was trying to target the trogs at the bottom of the piles of bodies so that he could loot them. I’d easily get five to eight stacks of linen per hour. That’s 100 to 160 linen. I gave it all to my priest who had tailoring and enchanting. He used it to take his enchanting into the low hundreds.

Blizzard said they lowered the spawn rate on the island several patches ago. I’ve not gone back to check it out. If the spawn rate has been lowered it’s a good thing for players killing them for xp, but a bad thing for cloth farmers. It still might be worth checking out. Trogs in general tend to drop a good amount of cloth.

I do have to try this trogg island. However, Westfall is great for linen harvesting. You don't even have to go to the Deadmines if you are lower level. Just stick around the Jangalode Mines or umm... (Damn forgot name) the caves to the west near the shore. Defias not only drop linen but also wool. This place is also great for improving first aid, because I'm a mage and they needed first aid like crazy.

Personally I really like the Trogg area in Loch Modan south Thelsamar... Just north of the Trogg Tunnels... Low level monsters so easy kills... Island in the middle of the Loch sounds promising though, I'll have to check it out ;)

In my opinion, the best place to farm linen cloth, (sorry don't know for wool), is just to the east of XR. If you move yourself just to the east you will find (along the mountainside), lots of lev 10-14 gnolls. If you're like me, a level 27 Warrior, these are a joke to kill, no exp but lots of linen. Last night I went on a small hunt, and in just half an hour I gathered about 69 linen.

Note: This is only good if you can kill them easily. Otherwise the drop rates would suck. But because I can kill so many, and never have to heal, it's quick easy linen.

For the Horde, Ragefire Chasm is a great place for Linen. I went through there in about half an hour with my 56 Warlock and got over 100 Linen cloth for a mage friend of mine. Me and two other guildies did this, a 60 Warrior and 60 Priest, and we gathered over 300 alltogether. Priest nearly died though. =P

I have a 24 Gnome Mage and I am going around Redridge right now. I've been getting wool and linen drops in the area above Lakeshire. Items and exp aren't too bad either, but then again I am poor =(

I'm an undead mage lvl 16 trying to get some wool for tailoring some new equipments. Is that too low a level to try to get wool? I'm new to the game and after looking around on the site I noticed most of the mobs that dropped them are around lvl 20+ with some exceptions.

The only mobs I can kill at this level are the gnolls on fenris isle in silverpine forest and I have no idea about anything outside of silverpine forest and trisfal glades. Any suggestions?

If you're farming for a tailor/enchanter... deadmines would be best... one run gave me 30 greens, 3 blues, and lots of linen and wool.

I am a lvl 48 hunter, i basically go in there (alone) with empty bags (except for heartstones and 5 HP pots), before you even reach VC, you'll just hope there is a mail system near to clear some space. I end up destroying few stacks of linen to make spaces for greens. If you're not an enchanter, and farming for a low-lvl friend, do bring your friend along for the BoPs.
