Enchanting... as a gathering skill?Follow

I saw this idea a while ago, and I'm wondering if it works. I'm a level 35 Mage, and with only 10 gold, I'm not making too much from my Tailoring/Enchanting skills. My Enchanting is around 185 right now, which is nice (I can make my own equipment; keeps me from buying from the AH), but my enchanting is pretty low... around 130-140, I think. It takes forever to get enough materials, and from what I hear, I'm looking at a straight loss up to around 225+.

So, this bring up my question: is it better to stop enchanting but keep enchanting as a gathering skill? We all get crappy green items from quests that are not only useless, but soulbound. Anyone else just sells them off to a vendor. Well, would it be worth more to disenchant them and sell the components?

I'm looking for feedback here: enchanters, is it worth it to just disenchant and sell components, or would you make more selling to vendors? If the second is true, I think I'll ditch enchanting for Mining ^_^;

Dissenchanting works as a gathering skill if you want to turn into an AH ***** LOL. if you plan on questing and want a faster income, you are better off with a gathering profession. YMMV.

I agree. I switched to mining and am currently at 125 skill :-D.

Anyone have suggestions on a good place to mine iron? It's been easy so far with Copper and Tin, but with Iron, enemies might start to aggro; I'm looking for an area with enemies at or under level 30 :-P Thanks!

If you check the "mining question" thread I actually asked that very question. Personally I did most running the walls of shimmering flats. However I have a adavtange in that i'm level 60...

Somebody in my guild found a couple of items (not soulbound quest rewards) which didn't sell on the AH and nobody in the guild wanted to buy them. Instead of selling them to vendor (value: 1g63s) she shipped the items to me for disenchanting. Going by current prices on our server the materials created and sent back to her were worth approx 8g. I don't know if she managed to sell them at that value but clearly the potential was there for a considerable gain even if she under-cut considerably.

Basically for any item which is soulbound or unlikely to sell on the AH check if disenchanting it would generate materials which are high value. I doubt you'll make any money with items below level 30, but past that you should be able to profit.

Tomec, I read your thread and realized that Mining would probably make more :-P However, it didn't give any good locations for iron; thanks for supplying one :-D. Iron is still relatively rare, though... maybe 2 spawn points running around the entire Shimmering Flats. 2 tin spawns as well. I ran through the rest of the Needles a bit, and found a ton of tin, and occassionally iron. There is a centaur cave that has iron though, so that helped ^_^. Also saw a gold spawn, but I'm not high enough for that yet :-/.

I'm trying to get up to 175 for Mithril asap, since I know I can survive the charred vale in Stonetalon, and someone said it had a lot of Mithril. Still, iron is selling for 1.5-2 gold a stack right now, so I can't complain!

Thanks again ^_^

To tell the truth the spawns in the vale are much like iron in the flats... Only a few. Its a smaller area of course. There is also some Iron.

I have been an AH **** for the last 2 weeks, not only have I change my 3g into 70g - but I also have gathered many ingrediants from this and got my skill to 225 with no cost to myself

To see if something's worth disenchanting, get the Enchantrix addon. Tells you what things will disenchant into, and you can check the AH for the going price of the item it will give you. ;)

Running around shimmering flats is great for iron and tin, there's usually 3 veins total on the rim at any given time. The potential spawns are pretty evenly spaced and you can find 2 mithril veins in the silithus dig site part.
