Not really sure what your skill should be at, but for me I use gnomish engineering (I'm a lvl 60 rogue). My friend is also a lvl 60 rogue and he went goblin.

I'd say for the most part that it doesn't matter for a rogue which you choose. Most of the useful trinkets and tools are exchangable between engineers. I'd probably lean toward recommending goblin because of the better jumper cables they can build (but any engineer can use them, so you could get them from another engineer). On the other hand gnomish can build some pretty useful trinkets like the net-o-matic and the shrink ray (but again they can be traded and used by any engineer).

Just remember to choose carefully, as you can't change after you select one or the other.

For Hunters and Rogues ... I highly reccomend Gnomish engineering. I'm a lvl 51 (52 in about 30 minutes, lol) Hunter who took the Goblin Engineering route despite my instincts, lol. It's lots of fun and the Goblin Rocket Helmet is perhaps the best Engineered item there is, but Gnomish Engineering is much better for Hunters and Rogues !IMO!. As for anyone else, I'd suggest Goblin Engineering.

I'm trying to figure out if the alarm-o-bot is Gnomish or if it's universal ...

Just hit skill level 280 this morning, yay!

If you know anthor engineer of the other type you can trade items.
the only diffrance is the engineering made bop items
goblin= dragon gun
gnome = death-ray
these items are what should be compared as to witch is more useful to a rouge

But you're not always going to find someone to trade with. Engineers are rare to find on Earthen Ring server.

315 Gnomish 60 rogue here perosanlly i think it really doesnt matter a whole lot. I got all but Goblin trinkets that i can use. all i did was "Any Goblin Engineers here wanna make me ____" in the general chat of Ironforge most dont mind if you give em mats.

think of it this way.

almost ALL of gnome items don't blow up or get destroyed they just don't work or do something bad. and almost ALL of goblin items completely blow up to the point you gotta remake them. yes there is exeptions. and almost goblin makes better bombs. so do you wanna ***** you self out if you gnomish to get a goblin to make you mass bombs every time you run out?

If you're a paladin on a pvp server, you owe it to yourself to take gnomish over goblin. The deathray is a ranged attack that can critical for upwards of 1500 damage, and consistently does around 800 or so. My friend (a level 43 paladin) and I have gotten lucky before and used it to gank lvl 60s with surprising ease when it criticals. Be aware that it does deal damage to you when you use it, but as a paladin, you can plan around that pretty easy, and frankly, you don't have a lot of options when it comes to burst damage, especially of the ranged variety.
