Leather working is a good combo with skinning.

Depending on your class, you are effectively making armour for yourself, or sell it on the auctions to rogues, druids and hunters.

Also your gathering all your raw materials as you go anyway. I found that I was getting medium and heavy leather/pelts when I could'nt use them.

So I placed them in the bank and when I was of a sufficient skill level, I just withdrew them and levelled like crazy making items that incorporated the medium leather, because I had the stock available.

I have never been a crafter in any MMORPG, as it normally stops you being able to have a decent adventuring character, but playing a hunter with gathering skills, is infact really easy and just becomes routine to skin after kill.

All I then do is head to Iron Forge, sell my loot and deposit skins into the bank and then craft for a little while.

Repeat and rinse, hey presto rich dude!

Tailoring actaully does have a gathering profession in my opinion. Several items actually require leather in order to be made. So if you want skinning and something else, besides a gatherer, I would suggest either leatherworking or Tailoring.
My level 22 priest has Tailoring/Skinning and its kinda nice being able to be self-sustaining....Well I guess its not self-sustaining if my level 57 warrior gathers all of the cloth....

I have skinning and mining. I started off as a skinner/leatherworker, and had i stuck w/ it i could have made some money, but i wanted to adventure more. Mining lets you make TONS of money if you just devote a little time to it. I have never been w/out money for spells or equipment, and i have never really had to go out LOOKING for mines, as they are plentiful and they show up on your minimap (if you use the find mines skill) so, that is my suggestion.
