Engineers - Which Explosive to you have on handFollow

#1 Jun 03 2005 at 9:38 AM Rating: Decent
I was wondering which explosives you engineers keep in you inventory at all times. I get a little confused with all the options available and am looking for advice on cost vs damage as well as efficiency.

Thanks.

I don't use explosives all that much but as for the powder, try to keep as much of the most powerful one you can used stocked up.. as for the rest depends on how often you use the bombs but I keep at least a full stack of each in the bank at all times just in case I need it for something.

I personally prefer bombs to dynamite as they have a stun effect on them.

Iether is good for the occasional AE damage... timer sucks on the ones I've made so far tho so I just use them for an area stun. Granted- my engineering is only in the 100's so I'm not the end all be all :P

My Fave is "The Big One", it just has a huge radius, some bombs do better dammage but the stun disorent combined witht he huge Area it hits makes it #1 in my book, admtly the arcinate bombs are cool vs casters, but just take way way way too much stuff to make or use regulary(the only ones I ever used were in a areana fight). but since my main has become my alt and my alt my main, i am now stuck with EZ throw II.

Explosive Sheep

my choice is based on the fact that i'm partially nuts and partially think that dealing the killing blow with the fluffy critter in PvP has to be the ultimate humiliation ;)

At level 41 and a proud Goblin engineer, I can say I usually stock the following.
1) Iron grenade
2) Bomb Dispenser
3) Goblin Mortar

The grenades are cheap and easy to make. In terms of min/max damage, it holds very well against other explosives in terms of cost. I'd rather have 20+ iron grenades than 4 'big ones'. I'm a warrior, so I use them to help with stunning and an extra damage source. Your needs may be different, so maybe a 'big one' is more worth while for you. The bomb dispenser is a bit expensive to make, but will always be there for you (every 30 minutes, at least). It's a nice item to alternate with my dragonling during recharge cycles. The mortar is great because of the huge blast radius and damage. The only thing I don't like about it is the minimum distance. Great if the mob is aggro'd away from you, but lousy if you like to drop a stun on the folks right around you.

I keep at least 15 iron grenades on me at all times; they're cheap to make, and the 3-sec stun is perfectly long enough for me to get off a frostbolt. They're great for the end of a fight when my timer for fn or coc hasn't recharged and I don't wish to use cold snap.

Thorium grenade baby - al the way. first time you see 500 damage to 5 or 6 mobs its impressive... Of course they ALL come at you at that point..

I always carry a bunch of solid dynamites just cause they're so impossibly cheap (I always have a lot of solid stones from mining/elementals etc). They deal 250ish damage in a fair radius so I guess they're fairly useful for aoe, especially in combination with whirlwind, to grab mobs' attention.

Just made way too many hi-explosive bombs for "That's asking a lot" quest (I thought it only yielded 1 ><). The small radius only makes them good for post-charge hate reinforcement though the little added damage and disorient might prove useful.

The big one looks awesome but also expensive... so not really worth it for spamming IMO.

I'm with ya 100%... I always keep at least 40 Iron Grenades, and a reloaded Goblin Mortar, with me at all times. Great when you need that stun effect!

Grenades. Iron or Thorium....I've fallen in love with thorium - the damage is nice. I critted one on a druid the other day, for a good 700 damage - I'd have turned and finished the fight if I had mana/health...the bomb disorient was enough to get a fear on the druid and finish/loot my mob.

I don't use bombs/dynamite, for the following reason:
Grenades can be used WHILE MOVING. Aside from the net-o-matic (when it doesn't backfire), grenades are my favorite aspect of engineering...because they have saved my warlock's behind so many times it's not funny.

Death ray crits are good too though.

Currently I keep a couple of stacks of Iron grenades. They deal decent damage as well as stun which is good when I get swarmed by a lot of mobs.

Big radius explosives can be very dangerous in dungeons where you are trying to keep additional mob aggro to a minimum.

dense dynamite

good damage, easy to maintain

I keep 10 each big ones, thorium grenades, and goblin land mines, as well as a fully loaded goblin morter on me at all times, with spares of each in the bank.

The big ones have a phenominal aoe but the stun is really what impressed me, the damage is pretty good too. The cost may seem prohibitive, but putting a big fight on hold for 5 seconds to let your tanks potion up when the healer has run dry on mana can make the difference in preventing a tpw.

The thorium grenades have good damage and a small stun, and are pretty good at giving your healer a break if he's dealing with too much agro.

I'm not too sure how well the mines work. I have them specifically for use in ZF and rarely have time to pay attention to them.

I also try to keep 3-5 masterwork target dummies on me as well, but I cringe every time I use one. Its almost better to die than pay for the thorium alone on those things.

I use Thorium Grenades and Big Iron Bombs. Big Iron Bombs for the 10-yard radius (HUGE!) and Thorium Grenades for the high amount of damage.

To the person that wrote this just so you know you can also use dynamite/bombs while moving.
