allright so i have 275 fishing now and i got this pole from the hinterlands "snapjaws, MON!" quest witch gives +25 fishing.

so my question is do i need to, dose it help whatever to still use bright bobbels or other fishing lures, is 300 the MAX cap or do skill bounes go past the "300 mark"

sorry if this has been covered before in a thread but thank you for your input

The skill totals (skill+bonuses) do go above 300. There are fishing areas where you need above 350 totals to fish.

Just to elaborate on that reply, my level 60 rogue had 300 fishing skill and a fishing pole with +20 fishing when he went in search of lobsters in the Sea of Storms. He pulled out his fishing pole and tried to cast, but it didn’t work. With 320 fishing skill the game would not allow him to fish in the Sea of Storms because his fishing skill was too low. I happened to have some nigh crawlers on me, which added +50 to his skill. With 370 fishing skill he could cast his line, but about 3 out of every 4 fish got away. The next time I go fishing there I’ll have to take +100 lures in order to have a decent chance at catching fish.

It looks like it's a Horde only quest so far but that the pole isn't BoP so it could be sold at Gadgetzan AH.

Are you sure about that? Most quest rewards are bound to whoever does the quest. There are a few rare exceptions, such as the mechanical chicken non-combat pet. But they are few and far between. Until people start seeing them for sale I’m going to assume they are not tradable.

As for it being fair if its horde only, of course its not. And it shouldn’t be. There’s only one way to be 100% fair. We’d have to have only one faction, one race and one class. Then we could all play the game exactly the same way and get exactly the same equipment. Now doesn’t that sound like fun? The difference between the factions, races and classes are what makes the game fun. And as long as none of those differences unbalance the game I’m all for them.

There is only 5% difference between the big iron fishing pole that anyone of the appropriate level can get and this horde only fishing pole. The difference between 422 fishing and 427 fishing is negligible. Its not game breaking, trust me.

Although the rod isn't listed as 'bound' in any particular way, it is flagged as "Quest Item" (a flag that does not show up on allakhazam but does show on thottbot, if you care to double check on this). Anything with this flag cannot be traded.

Presently, yes, it is Horde-only. I suspect an equivalent *will* surface for Alliance soon, likely next patch. The +5 difference over Big Iron isn't that significant that people will DIE to not have this rod till next patch ;)
