Confusion in SkinningFollow

#1 Jun 16 2005 at 10:17 PM Rating: Decent
I'm currently a hunter with skinning/leatherworking and I'm still confused about skinning. Try the best to answer some questions:

1. What are the different trade goods you get from skinning any mob? Types of mobs who drop, specific leatherworking category would be nice to explain to me.

2. If you were to skin a raid boss (say for example, Onyxia) and other people wanted to skin her as well, would that mean only one person can skin her?

3. This has been repeated, but is elemental or dragonscale leatherworking better for hunter?

4. Does enchanted leather require an enchanter as well for the enchanting? What leather is needed for the recipe to making one?

5. Discussion: Should Blizzard rework the skinning system for a party to have a "fair" loot in skinning?

1. You can get Leather (Light, medium, heavy, thick, rugged, etc), and hides, and scales. All beast type mobs could be skinned, plus additional few humanoids (yetis). the leather that you get depends on the level of the mob being skinned.

2. Only 1 skinner could skin any particular corpse.

3. None. Sadly, the best armor you can make yourself is the Scorpid Set. and you dont need any of those masteries.

4. Enchanted Leather = rugged leather + lesser eternal essence. and yes only an enchanter can do this.

5. NO. its fine as it is. what kind of rework do u have in mind? Multiple skinning for the party? not feasible. far from reality.

I can immagine a whole bunch of people getting their knives out and going for the same corpse at once XD. the word "feeding frenzy" comes to mind.

To number five: How should I say this? I've had a few experiences where it was "unfair" with the party. In Wailing Caverns, a druid comes in and takes all the skins without sharing. The other fact? He absolutely did nothing else. And yet he still was in the party. The only time he actually did was when we reached the last boss. He starts saying he wants the ring. Sad, isn't it? I wished I never went through that sort of experience?

To number 2: So, you're actually saying that only one person can Onyxia meaning that everyone has to go through the dungeons more than 4 times just to even get 10 Onyxia scales?

There's something I don't get...

You CAN ACTUALLY SKIN ONYXIA?!
I was told she's like a levl 300 Beast, maybe more. The "Actual" level of her can't be any less then 65, and thus the best Skining level + the best skining enchants and equipment ISN'T ENOUGH to be able to skin her. Did this change or something?

Scale of Onyxia is a drop not from skinning her. skinning seems to work by who ever looted the corpse gets first dibs.

seems to have most of the info.

Actually, everyone in the party can skin the skill as long as no one loots the skin. We used to do that in my RL friends group so that everyone could get skillups. Most people weren't interesting in the actually light leather at the time. We also at points did the , whoever's turn it is to loot, also gets to skin.

#5 Discussion: Should Blizzard rework the skinning system for a party to have a "fair" loot in skinning?

You chose to leave the skinning druid in the party, boot em, thats how the system is fair. You see Blizzard made the syetm fair by letting you kick such an idoit out of your group.

Further on this point is when folks RAID UBERS and they get to "The Beast" A Boss that can be skinned for Pristine Hide of the Beast, in that case we roll for it. The behavior of said druid will not be tolorated in endgame, untill nobody will party with him, just dont party with him.

The skinning is just fine the way it is.

There are several ways to handle the "goodies" issue. What my group has done is to establish jobs for the group; skinning, looting as well as the usual tank, healer, etc. Then at the end the leatherworkers get hide, the tailors get leather, all get gems, cloths, meat, potions, etc are shared(ie "traded" amongst the group" and other items are rolled for. BTW, your useless druid may have been healing/buffing and you simply didn't notice.
