Is Skinning at 300 good money for a lvl 60Follow

#1 Jun 21 2005 at 6:46 PM Rating: Decent
Im lvl 60 and farming for my epic is a bit too boring and takes a while at the same time. So i figured ill powerlevel skinning to 300 in a day or two like i did with FA. My question is does skinning make good money? I would do mining but searching for mines is really not my idea of fun even if i AM making good money. Anyway any responces will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Skinning is OK, but not as good as mining or herbalism. The only plus to skinning is that you don't have to hunt resource nodes, you can go out and AE a bunch of beasts for greater quantities of leather (why it's cheaper per unit, I think).

I’ve found skinning to be decent money when selling in bulk. Per stack leather doesn’t sell for a lot. I expect it’s because skinning is THE easiest profession in the game. People pay more for resources that are harder to come by. The fact that mining can be a pain is the reason people pay more for metal bars then leather. So if you don’t mind killing lots of animals and selling in bulk then go for it. But otherwise you may be somewhat disappointed in what it sells for.

if you're alreayd at 60 and just want money, go for mining.

it's not that hard to find the ore nodes. having said that, i thought at 60 you probably should be able to kill things faster? dont kill lvl 60 stuff. go kill lvl 40 or 30 stuff that drop silk or mageweave, and green/blue gear as well as money. eg the ogres in stromgarde actually drop nice amounts of silver for being lvl 40ish.

the cloth stacks more than the raw ore, though the smelted ore stacks to 20 also. but that involves returning to a smelting place.

I have a lvl 58 Hunter with 300 skinning and it brings in some money, but not alot. The only real money might be from killing the elites (Dragonkin, Devilsaurs etc) for the more specialized stuff that sells higher.

Normal Rugged Leather is fast and easy but it only sells for about 10s each on my server and you have to kill lvl 50+ mobs to get it with good regularity. The other leathers sell lower pretty much in proportion to level. They all sell fast mostly, but none sell high.

I havent tried the Devilsaurs yet, but I tried to farm some Blue Dragonscales in Azshara today and the downtime solo farming Dragonkin is pretty horrendous, along with a sluggish drop rate. so I dont think that's a viable gold making option. I'm thinking the case will be similar with the Devilsaurs.

I keep my skinning on the Hunter because he also does leathercraft. Mining and Herbalism will probably pay off better and faster if you are just going for gold. I'm leveling up alts for those myself.
