This is one profession I know little about from first hand experience. But from what I just read in the FAQ, it sounds like the answer to your question is yes.

Weapon Specialist Quests

At level 50 and skill 250 Weaponsmiths will have a chance to further specialize as either a Master Axesmith, Hammersmith or Swordsmith. The three questgivers are in a tent at Everlook in Winterspring (which requires a difficult run through the tunnel from Fellwood to get to in order to get the flight point). Each quest gives one plan as a quest reward. Once you complete one of these quests you can never complete the other two. The complete list of specialist plans is given in my List of Blacksmith Plans. These are difficult quests in level 55-60 instances so you cannot solo them and will need a good 5-man group to succeed. The quests and quest reward plans are:

Master Swordsmith:
Seril Scourgebane assigns the quest Corruption - http://www.thottbot.com/?q=2965
"Find the Black Guard Swordsmith in Stratholme and destroy him. Recover the Insignia of the Black Guard and return to Seril Scourgebane.
If I am short with you, it is for a reason. The plans for the creation of the great blade, Corruption, have been stolen by the Black Guard: Elite skeletal units of Baron Rivendare. Yes, Baron Rivendare of Stratholme. The Black Guard swordsmith now guards those plans with his... undeath. Slay him and return proof of this deed and I shall train you in the ways of the swordsmith."

Stratholme is a difficult instance for a 5-Man group at level 60, let alone lvl50. In order to complete the swordsmithing quest you have to open the blacksmithing plans by the first Ziggurat on the undead side of Stratholme, just after you fight the abominations. The Baroness is at the top of the stairs. The plans are up against the wall directly to the right of the Ziggurat's stairs. When you click on them an elite named mob, the Black Guard Swordsmith, spawns that you have to kill and loot an item from, the Insignia of the Black Guard. Return that item to Seril Scourgebane in Everlook, Winterspring and you're done.

Quest Reward Plan: Blazing Rapier [280] One-Hand Sword (41-76) Spd 1.70, Proc: Burn target for 100 damage over 30 sec., L 51, 34.4 DPS (Rare)(Quest Reward)
- 10 Enchanted Thorium Bars, 4 Essence of Fire, 4 Heart of Fire, 2 Azerothian Diamonds, 2 Dense Grinding Stones

Yes, all three weapon specialization quests start in winterspring with those three people standing around in a circle. I chose axesmith so I needed to run into LBRS. For swordsmith you need to do Stratholme undead side. For Hammersmith you go to Stratholme Liveside and go towards the Canon Master.
