Are you talking about that little Purple (I think) book down on the menu bar at the bottom of the screen, along with Main Menu and Character Info?
Lol, never thought to look there. So, all I need are like, 4 scraps of leather and then I click the book and click and poof, I'm able to make Light Leather?
Production professions, and also fishing, work by clicking on an icon. All your skills can be found in your skill book. This is the same book that you open up when you learn new spells and such. To make life easier, you can place the icon in one of the empty slots of your action bar. Again, just like you do for spells and such.
When you click on the leatherworking icon a window will open up displaying all the patterns you know. Clicking on them will show you a list of what is needed to make each one. Orange patters will give you a skill point for each item you make. Once it turns yellow it will usually give you a skill point but not always. Once it turns green it will occasionally give you a skill point. And once gray its like boiling water, you don’t learn anything new by making that item.
I would suggest turning scraps into leather until that turns green before making anything else. Then you can use that leather to make patches until that turns green. After that’s its up to you. But that should get you going in the right direction.

if you get CT mod or something, you can get another panel to put (all) your passive talents in
thats what i did... have my attacking things on bottom, potions on left, abilities while out of combat on right, really helps + saves valuable grinding time :)
You don’t have to download a mod to get more action bars showing. You can add up to four more bars by clicking on the little computer at the bottom of the screen and going into the options section. I would advise taking a look in there anyway, as you can make lots of changes, like turning on and off player and NPC names for example.
