Iv been playin the game for a few weeks now and have yet to learn what benefits fishing has. Can anyone give me an idea as to why anybody would fish on this game? I havnt seen anybody mention it as a money maker so can it be? or is it just used for food? Little insight please, Thanks in advance.

Getting a golden pearl inside a shell was worth the time in fishing! Just like Christmas.

It helps to level up cooking alongside it, which can be pretty sweet later on when food items can reduce down-time.

As mentioned, it's good for leveling cooking. It's only real moneymaking use would be the fish used for alchemy. i.e. Firefin Snapper, Oily Blackmouth and Stoneskin Eel (especially the eel for money, but very slow to catch most of the time). Deviate Fish can be a moneymaker because of the novelty food Savory Deviate Delight (changes your form). A couple of fish like Lightning Eel and Plated Armorfish look as though they might be worth something when Blizzard introduces the recipes invloving them to the game, but right now I just have them piling up on a mule.

So, for the most part, fishing is not a big moneymaker, but I think it's a very good skill to have, if for no other reason, to catch a Blackmouth or Firefin while waiting for a boat every now and then. Every little bit helps.

Also, for my Hunter, it's a great cheap way to keep the cat fed.

Do that many people use stonescale eels? It seems to be used in only 4 potions two of which are flasks. Do that many use Elixir of Greater Defense?

Also what fish sells for the most on your server per stack.
A few months ago when I fished I could get usually 2g/stack of oily blackmouths.

Fishing has not been a good money maker for me, but I have not invested a whole lot of time in it. I know that there are some pretty good benefits when it comes to fishing up armor and stuff. Fishing is useful, but it does take time to skill up. You will have to spend a good deal of time leveling it up, depending on where you fish at.

Besides, you could always just wait a while to level it up, with it being a Secondary skill, it is not necessary to have.

I am level 60 though have mining and first aid maxed. Sitting around 235 in Engr (i was herb/alch before).

I'm only around 170 on my main but I'm at 225 on a lower level alt. Sometimes it's nice to just pass a little time doing it. Grinding mobs would still be better income I'm just wondering if I could make a few gold every once in a while off it. So what are the best fish to sell and at what price?

Fishing is supposedly good for the Alchemist, because you can catch the Blackmouth fish in the Wetlands (so I hear...) but so far it hasn't been too keen for me. I fished up some green pants in Ellwyn with my alt at a very low level, which was GREAT for him, but that kind of thing has been so rare for me that I can't justify the time apart from fishing for aiding the cooking skill and (I guess) catching the blackmouth once I don't suck so bad at fishing...

once you find were and when to catch oilys it can make you money. You aint gonna get rich. I have also sold the devicates for good money too once cooked. But why i do it is i am married and there are many of time with 2 kids that i know i will have to get off of WOW at a certain time. Not enough time to go on a quest or do anything more important so sit and try to catch some fish. It is also kinda like a gamble, Are you gonna get a bit...will it get away...what will it be... just like a lotto but with better odds!

i also spend time fishing (in a town) when i can't stay dedicated to the game but i can throw a cast or two while going back and forth between game and something else in RL.

i find cooking to be pretty fun. if for no other reason, raise fishing for that.
