I disagree. Leather is a money sink.

For rogues....I usually recommend choosing two of the following:

Herbalism/skinning/mining/enchant

Why?

Herbalism will prove invaluable to you, for getting your own swift thistle and fadeleaf...i.e. thistle tea and blind powder ingredients. You can also make decent money with this, esp selling kingsblood, blindweed, and the ever popular morrowgrain.

Skinning? not as profitable individually, but if you prefer grinding to questing, you can really rake in piles of leather quickly...and you do not have to hunt for veins or herbs...you just skin what you killed.

Enchanting???? HOW is enchanting profitable as expensive as it is to train? No one said to train it :D Disenchant and sell mats on items which do not have particularly high AH vvalues...and you can also DE your outdated gear.

Mining? Yeah, most folks love this one for making money anyway...but for rogues (and druids prowling of course), this one can really shine at higher lvls...where rumor of those 3 magic veins in DM East with high drop rates of arcane crystals. For most classes, this means going through this over and over, but to one who can stealth to them and tap...it can be a source of quick and easy profit.

Actually it really depends on what you want to do...

Sleepy just gave you the moneymaking ideas. Sure you can make a good bit of money by taking only gathering skills. This is not always true when it comes to near end game, when you can use crafting to rake in a lot of gold.

Taking 2 gathering professions is just fine, and then once you hit about level 40, then just drop one and pick up a crafting tradeskill, level it up and then you will be making plenty of money.

Personally, I like engineering for all of its unique toys. As for leatherworking, you will definately benefit from it when you need some new armor. Sure, it can be a money sink, but not once you learn to craft some of the better things.

It is just up to you, do you want to make money quick, do you want a skill that can help you along on your journeys, such as Engineering for the jumper cables or such, or what? You can always try em all...

while i chose leatherworking which as been such a pain but guildys love the free stuff, id say alchemy is good for rouges because I know I use potions often and am sick of paying 2g a stack for superior healing potions.

I also chose Leatherworking and Skinning and i regret it. Engineering is ALOT better for rogues. Im thinking about abandoning LW for engineering and mining. Once you hit level 60, LW is useless for gear and profit ><. I highly suggest engineering. Good Luck to you

I've been a blacksmith/enchanter since lvl 10 rogue and I love it. It is rediculously expensive though, make sure you got some bankroll if you're going to try it. Good pay offs in the end though.
