Dropping Mining or herbalism after 50?Follow

#1 Aug 16 2005 at 3:39 PM Rating: Decent
I am a level 50 Druid with over 280 herbalism and mining high enough for small thorium nodes. I have been thinking about dropping one to take up a crafting skill. Wanted to troll for some advice. Which, if any, should I drop and what should I take up? Was thinking about Leather Working or maybe enchanting(for the abillity of DEing all the useless Blues I seem to keep collecting). Well anyway, thank you for your input

If you are going to drop something, i woudl say give Herb the boot(Ouch). I am a giant fan of Herb/Alchemy, but I cannot deny that mining has more money in it than Herbs, I say go with the Enchanting, it is a great money maker, especialy as a druid.

Druids and rouges can go stealth, This makes them the best Disenchanters in the game, just stealth to the guys that drop blues in farmable instances, nuke, Profit, change that Bop Blue to a tradeable shard, money dosent come much better than that. with a buddie to reset instances you can farm hydrocanes form Gnomer all day long. about 2-4 gold each shard you get, about 3 min walk in to fallout(while stealthd)2 min fight, 5 min walk out(the jump down saves you some time on the way in)reset instance, boom, this works well for making money, and for farming for reagents for your own enchanting if you want to do that.

I have never had a miner very high, but I made over 70g last night in an hour an a half collecting herbs..(as a 42 priest) and that was just skilling up.. If I was at lvl 50, had travel form (I am assuming that you can pick flowers in travel form) and was at 280 already, I would have made probably 100 gold last night in an hour and a half.

If you can make more with mining.. then go with that.

on another note.. I think that crafting is stupid, gatherers make all the money in game, except for a few very high end crafting recipies, usually mats sell for more than the the item they create.

dis-enchanting is my favorite prof, I make more money there than with anything else (maybe not now that my herbalism is above 250)

I would drop one of yours for disenchanting tho, as you cant have find herbs and find veins on at the same time... and that would be a little annoying.

A good point is made about the Find Minerals/Find Herbs tabs, and that must get annoying to have to switch back and forth unless you count on the naked eye (also one of the reasons I think Hunters should take Skinning).

Rooz: At least on my server (Warsong), A full stack of Copper Bars, the lowest-level mining product, sells for 1g in the AH. The prices pretty much keep getting higher from there. I've had a level 10 with 10g before just from mining Copper. My highest level miner is only level 30, so I don't know exactly how profitable it is at the higher levels, but I can only imagine that if such a lowbie can make that much, a higher-level player would be able to make a fortune.

As for what profession to take, it depends on what you want to do. If you're taking up a crafting profession, it says to me you're not in it for the money. IMO, Engineering is the most entertaining profession in the game since you get to make all kinds of fun little gadgets. Alchemy is also a lot of fun, and can also make you some money, though not much. So if you're looking to switch for entertainment, I'd take Engineering if you stick with mining or Alchemy if you stick with Herbs. If you're in it for the money, Enchanting is the way to go.
