Some opinionsFollow

I'm a 44 Rogue (main) with 300 Skinning, and 260+ LW. I am thinking about dropping LW, the Tribal/Elemental gear doesn't intrest me, and take up Mining.

I'm going to make an Alt with Disenchating & Engineering, i can do some solo Deadmines runs for green items, and use engineering for my main.

Is this a good combination for practicality and money making?
Some opinions would be great!

LW is actually a very good profession for rogues, as there are quite a few high end armor pieces that you'll be able to make. Once you make them I can see dropping it, but you don't have access to devilsaurs yet to farm, and you wouldn't be able to kill one anyway at your level. I would personally keep LW until you get to 60 or very close. Make yourself somme armor, and then drop it if you see fit. You'll still be able to farm useful leather (devilsaur leather goes for like 3g each on my server). And you can always get others to make stuff for you (which in that respect makes having any crafting profession besides engineering useless).

That being said having a character with engineering and no other character of the same or higher level as a miner is stupid. I'm a 300/300 goblin eng/miner myself, and I can say that you will spend a ton of money buying all the metal to level up eng w/o a miner. If you go one, you need the other. And the downside of eng is many of the cool items require eng to use. Exceptions to this are scopes, guns, ammo. IIRC all the armor and most of the devices (including almost all of the explosives) that are worth the effort to make require engineering of the same level to use.

Having an alt for a disenchanter is a great idea, though some disenchanters don't like it. Fact is, especially with higher level green items, the result of the DE is often more valuable and more useful than the item iteself.

If you want pure money making keep skinning and pick up mining or herb as your other skill. The benifit of this is you can always supply yourself with materials to make whatever, and there's always someone willing to make it on your server for a tip (or in your guild for free). I always tip well when I provide mats. It's cheaper for me in the long run anyway and I respect how long it takes you to level a crafting profession.
