where can one find Deviate Fish and Blackmouth? Please suggest safer areas that toons lvl 20 and under can gather this.

Sounds like WC is the only place to get "Deviate" anything in the whole game that I've ever seen. If you play on a PvP server, I suggest bringing a Lv60 friend along. Is it possible to fish -inside- the Instance itself? If so, clear the Instance out until the part where you get to the river and do your fishing there. Have your Lv60 friend kill off the nearby mobs (or, if you're 40+, you can solo the whole instance, I did it with my Paladin40).

As far as Ratchet...what about that island east of Ratchet? Would the same fish bite there? I doubt very many horde characters go waaaaaay over there to see you. Try hiding behind that fence or something. I doubt you'd be bothered very often. If you are, ask a Lv60 guildie or something to help keep them off you. Heck, maybe he could help you fish for them.

There's a large body of water just outside the instance gate in the cavern, so you don't actually have to enter the instance. I've found that the 'drop rate' for deviate fish seems to be slightly better inside than the pool outside, but this could be my imagination.

For blackmouth fish, try Menethil Harbor. Once you get higher in level, move on to Theramore Isle.

There's some blackmouth off the pier at Auberdine as well.

At Theramore I caught 100 fish. 7 of them were blackmouth.

Where is Ratchet?
How would I get there from Iron Forge?

It is on the coast of The Barrens - Kalimdor

Two ways to get there:

1. Take boat from Booty Bay - Stranglethorn Vale

2. Run from Theramore Isle. (Take boat from Menethil Harbour - Wetlands)

Fairly easy run if you stay on the path... just takes a little while.

Just depends on your level.

Lvl 20 and under please!!! Someone told me last night Ratchet is way out of bounds for anyone under lvl 20 trying to get to, as well as WC.

Whoever said that was very ill-informed.

From IF, a Level 20 can go:

Ironforge -> Kharanos
Kharanos -> Loch Modan
Loch Modan -> Wetlands (follow the road straight north)
Wetlands -> Menethil (you want to go North until the first fork, then go West. Stay On The Road, and Stay Away From Mobs. They are probably Orange to Red to you at this level)
Menethil -> Theramore (take the ship, can't fail)
Theramore -> Barrens (stay on the road. When I did this at Lv27, I never saw a single mob. Go West until the first fork (at the burned down inn, then go south, then go West again)

Once you're in Barrens, the mobs in here are ideal exp mobs for a 20ish character. If you are in a PvP server, well bring a friend or something. If you are PvE or RP, don't do anything that would get you flagged.

Stay away from the Crossroads. The area you want to go is about Halfway up the Map. When you first get into the Barrens, STAY ON THE ROAD. The mobs down there could kill you in 5 seconds flat, but they Shouldn't aggro you if you're on the road. Even if they did, at best, they are Red and you should be able to outrun them, if you do get aggro. Keep heading North. Stay away from Camp Taurajo though. Eventually the road will branch East. Take that. Stay away from the small orc towers, and you'll soon find yourself in Ratchet. To get to WC, at Lv20, the mobs up near Ratchet should be yellow at best, you shouldn't have any problem here. Just stay away from the Horde NPCs and you'll be fine. The Centaurs at Level 20, near WC, can be a pain in the butt, but they should be Green to a Lv20.

someone said, > lvl 20 and someone said < lvl 20..

i have found oily blackmouths almost every dock that i fish at...for alliance the 2 safe docks then would be theramore and menethil. a semi-safe dock at SS depending if any horde rogues try to take you out, though that's not very common.

for deviates, only in the barrens. the suggested place is wailing caverns. you can fish inside the instance also...just clear the mobs near the lake and be sure to kill any respawns, unless you find a spot away from the patrol paths.

i wouldn't necessarily recommend taking a lvl 60 friend along. if fishing is boring for you as the fisher, it's triple boring for your friend who is just standing there to defend you against the occasional enemy (monster or horde faction)
