What profession can be considered the most profitable in a time spent/money earned ratio?

Gathering proffessions. Skinning, mining, herbalism. Gather stuff on your travels and sell it in the AH.

You could also try enchanting, to get the disenchant ability. Then, intead of selling soulbound items or stuff you get but don't need from quests, you can disenchant them and sell the stuff they turn into. Shards sell for alot.

Every profession (bar possibly Engineering) is profitable given enough patience/skill.

The simplest way to make profit is to dual gather:

Take any 2 of: Skinning, Mining, Herbalism, Enchanting (for Disenchant).

I'd advise not taking both Mining and Herbalism because you can't track both on the map at the same time.

Herbalism/Enchanting appears to give you the best zero-rate gold. That is if you spend no time farming, this combination will improve your income the most.

Mining/Skinning comes into its own when you start to spend time specifically farming for gold. But don't underestimate Herbalism in the mid-levels (Kingsblood).

Check out the guides section of this site for some helpful tips on professions and cash.

*however* the best way by far to make cash is simply to play intelligently. Don't spend too much money on the AH. Don't flood markets with your goods. Don't undercut too far. Don't use Auctioneer because it gets it wrong all the time. A friend of mine made 500g in a week or so just levelling from 40-50 (no epic drops, only 1 blue) simply by playing economically and selling stuff she found.

Thanks for your time,

TF

Ugh...

"What's the quickest way to....."
"What's the best money...."
"What can I make the most, quickest..."

These questions are... well, they get old after awhile. Remember, this isn't your Single Player RPG. This is an MMORPG. If everyone tried to do "The Biggest Money Maker" then it would quickly dry up, and everyone would be complaining about everything -else- that's hard to get.

What you need to remember in an MMORPG like this, is that we need a diversity of skills. If, say, Enchanting was the No.#1 thing to make money, and if Everybody and their neighbor did Enchanting, then it'd be harder to skill up Enchanting, and there'd be far far too much competition. Well, the Green Item Sellers would be in pure heaven though... lol.

But then, other professions like Mining, Skinning, Etc would suddenly increase in profit becuase not very many are doing it, etc. When choosing a profession, sometimes its best to consider what your character is, and what your goals are. At the end of each Craft, the meat (IMHO) of each craft, are those BoP items you can make. Are you choosing a craft that has BoP items your character will benefit from? I made a Warrior on Dethecus and I chose Enchanting and Tailoring. Now, I know I'm missing out on BoP stuff that Blacksmithing could make for me, but I went into it with the Mindset that I could give myself Free Enchants, to further bolster my equipment. I chose Tailoring, because, if I chose Enchanting, and Smithing, I'd either have to rely on a Guildie to get me my ore, or pay gross prices on the AH. Now, maybe once I get Tailoring to 300, trick myself out in 18 slotters, and such then I might consider dropping Tailoring and picking up Smithing if I have need of it later, who knows. Maybe by then I can easily buy my ingots needed to make my stuff.

I just dropped Enchantment/Tailoring for Ench/Skinning on my freshly rolled NE Hunter, and now I am really sad.

Good thing I was only as far as making Linen bags. I would like level First Aid, but all my cloth will be sucked up by Tailoring. I could cook, but my pet needs food.

I guess I can find a happy medium.

Anyone selling scopes on Malygos by any chance?

If you get a pet bear, they'll eat pretty much anything. Literally.

I say Tailoring/enchanting, because you can tailor green items and disenchant them. pretty mucht the only reason, or you could sell the items that you tailor. or you can chant other peoples stuff for a min fee. you have an excellent assortment of things you can do with the tailoring/enchanting combo.

Alchemy is also good, you can easily make 10 gold (after buying materials) every other day transmuting arcanite bars. You can either pay for the thorium bars and arcane crystals or mine them yourself. You'd want to level your alchemy to 300 by being an herbalist but once there you can drop herbalism for mining.

Stacks of herbs sell well, commensurate with your level so at 60 you can make several gold (12-15) per stack and it's profitable even at lower levels. It usually pays better to sell the herbs than the potions you make with them, but hard-to-find recipes are usually good money-makers. All of these factors depend on your realm so do research at the auction house before deciding.
