dont really see the usefulness behind fishing... cooking is good, well basically u get the meat of a lot of other beasts, but fishing? wats the use for tat? never tried it...

like ummm is it tat helpful for alchemy? and for cooking? cause at least wat i have seen, i dont have much recipies for cooking tat involves fishing..

like said above cooking and alch....very useful with the savory deviate delight recipe for cooking

Mostly Fishing serves as a distraction from the rest of the game. Occasionally you'll fish up something interesting like boxes of crap, lockboxes, trophy fish, etc.
As for "usefulness" it's a cheap way for hunters to feed pets if there's a shortage of beast types around and you have a pond or the likes. Other than that oily blackmouth and firefin snappers are used in alchemy. Blackmouth make breathing potions I forget what the snappers are for.
Otherwise fishing has no realy use other than to fish em cook em n vendor em. Alotta FFXI people get pissed at that =)

there are lots of recipes for fish...buy them from npcs.
cooking fish is nice because it's the only meat type that you can cook up without extra recipe items. there are some that require other items but many do not.
and for the constantly financially poor players out there, it's a good way to have food available for you or your pet. though in truth, i find that the financially poor players lack many things, including reagents, bandages, drinks, and they won't take the time to fish or make a few gold to buy supplies before heading out, so it's kind of a moot advice.
